JuK
JuK is a free music coordination application, designed for the KDE desktop environment, similar to other music coordination programs like iTunes or RealOne. It is compatible with various formats such as Ogg Vorbis and MP3, it also allows editing of tags for both formats (including ID3v2 for MP3 files), it can also work with aRts, GStreamer, it can read multiple lists, and many other functions.
JuK was started by Scott Wheeler in 2000, and was originally called QTagger. However, it wasn't until 2002 that the application was incorporated into KDE's CVS, where it grew into a mature audio application. It was an official part of KDE for the first time in KDE 3.2.
Features
Although it can function as a music player, JuK is primarily an audio jukebox application, heavily focused on managing music. The following features demonstrate this:
- Collection list and multiple user-defined playlists.
- Directory scanning at the start to automatically import playlists (ficheros)
.m3u
) and music files. - Dynamic Search Reproduction Lists which is automatically updated as fields in the change of collection.
- Tree view mode where playlists are automatically generated for albums, artists and genres.
- Reproduction history to indicate which files have been reproduced and when.
- Online search to filter the visible elements from the list.
- Deduces the information of the tags from the file name or by checking MusicBrainz online.
- Renamed files based on the content of the labels.
- Editing and reading ID3v1, ID3v2 and Ogg Vorbis tags (median TagLib).
