Jose Cardona
José Enrique Cardona Gutiérrez (La Lima, February 27, 1939 – San Pedro Sula, January 30, 2013) was a historical Honduran soccer player who played in the forward position, he played in Spanish teams such as Elche and Atlético de Madrid.

José Enrique Cardona Gutiérrez, was born on February 27, 1939 in the place called El Bejuco, in the village El Higuerito, jurisdiction of La Lima, department of Cortés. He died on January 30, 2013 due to blood sugar. He is the son of Mrs. Petrona Gutiérrez and Mr. José de la Luz Cardona. As a child, José Enrique grew up in the town of El Tamarindo, jurisdiction of La Lima Vieja.He was married to the Alicante-born Francisca PaquítaCerdá, daughter of Mr. Vicente Cerdá.
Career
José Enrique Cardona Gutiérrez played soccer since he was a child in the fields and pastures of his town. He was signed for the first time by the team Club Deportivo Hibueras , with which he obtained a goal scorer and champion title. His first team in Europe was the Lusitano of Portugal, which was managed by De Évora. In 1959, Pedro Otto Bumbel signed him for the Elche Football Club of Spain, a team that offered him a blank contract, for which Hibueras was paid $500. Elche was going to play in the Spanish First Division for the first time. in its history and the signing of Cardona was one of the reinforcements to try to achieve permanence in the category.
He debuted in the Spanish First Division on September 13, 1959 in the match Oviedo against Elche (1:1). In his last season at the club, 1963-64, he achieved fifth place in the league, the best classification in the history of Elche Football Club. He remained at Elche for four seasons, in which he played 89 league games, in which he scored 24 goals.
In 1964 he was signed by the Atlético de Madrid club. In his first season in his new team, he achieved a runner-up finish in the league and a Copa del Generalísimo (current Copa del Rey). In 1966 and reinforcing Valencia, at the inauguration of the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, D.F. he scored the first night goal (with artificial light). His name is engraved on a plaque.
He remained at Atlético de Madrid until the 1968-69 season, which would be his last as an active player. He played a total of 141 games in the Spanish First Division, scoring 44 goals.
