Jorge Camacho Cordon

Jorge Camacho Cordón (Zafra, Badajoz, Spain, November 18, 1966). Poet in Esperanto and Spanish. Since 1995 he has been working in Brussels as an interpreter from English and Finnish into Spanish for the European Union. He was a member of the Esperanto Academy from 1992 to 2001.

He was elected as a member of the Esperanto Academy in 1992, but on August 15, 2001, he announced his resignation due to disappointment with the Esperanto movement. However, he remains active and continues to review literary works and write articles, reviews and poems in the language.

Work in Esperanto

Camacho became famous for his poetry and short stories in the late 1980s, for which he received several awards at UEA's Belartaj Konkursoj. He won the Grabowski Award in 1992.

In the early 1990s he was considered one of the members of the so-called Ibera Skolo ("School of Iberia"), along with three other writers from the Iberian Peninsula.

In the 1990s, Camacho began to publicly oppose Giorgio Silfer for his political interpretation of "Raumismo". He wrote La Majstro kaj Martinelli ("The Master and Martinelli"), a scathing satire of Silfer (inspired by Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita), and criticized their ideology in La liturgio de la foiro ("The Liturgy of the Fair").
