John Doggett
Special Agent John Jay Doggett (born April 4, 1960 in Atlanta, Georgia) is a fictional character in the television series The X-Files, played by actor Robert Patrick, appearing in the opening credits of season 8 and season 9.
Character Profile
Doggett served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps amphibious unit and was also part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. He had as companions Marines Knowle Rohrer (Adam Baldwin) and Shannon McMahon (Lucy Lawless), who would later become Super-Soldiers. He retired from the Navy after being wounded.
After earning a master's degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University, Doggett was working as a detective in the New York Police Department when his son Luke Doggett was kidnapped and murdered. Doggett teamed up with Special Agent Monica Reyes, who was working in the FBI's New Orleans office at the time, to search for her son and her killer. This was not found until season 9, in the episode Release. After the death of his son, his marriage to Barbara worsened until they divorced.
In 1995, Doggett graduated from the FBI academy and began working as a special agent in the criminal investigation division. In 2000, Agent Doggett was assigned by Deputy Director Alvin Kersh to lead the search for Special Agent Fox Mulder in the Season 8 episode Within. The search was fruitless and Doggett was relegated to working on the X-Files with Special Agent Dana Scully. During this time, Doggett and Kersh developed a bitter feud, similar to Mulder's feud with the Smoker.
Doggett and his new partner, Special Agent Monica Reyes, took control of the X-Files after Mulder was fired from the FBI and Scully left the department, to teach at the FBI academy, while also looking after the Take care of your son with Mulder, William.
Doggett also testified on Mulder's behalf when he was accused of murder.
Personality
During his first appearances he shows a somewhat distrustful personality, but as he progresses, he shows more trust in Scully (Medusa) and we see how he adopts a concern towards what she can do. feel for Mulder's death (This Is Not Happening), and he is also seen very interested in the safety of Scully's baby in Provenance and William.
He is skeptical to the point of thinking that the devil is a story created to scare people (Dæmonicus).
His interest in Agent Reyes is demonstrated in the episode Audrey Pauley. In Release, Doggett's ex-wife tells Scully that he and Reyes could easily have something together but that he won't let her "in" her life.
