Jockey Club of Peru
The Jockey Club of Peru (JCP) is an equestrian club in Peru. It is the successor of the Jockey Club of Lima, owner of the Santa Beatriz Hippodrome and former promoter of horse racing in Peru. Its main location is on El Derby Avenue in Santiago de Surco.
History
It was founded in Lima, on April 4, 1946. It is a club with an equestrian and equestrian sports vocation. It has the Monterrico Racecourse, the most important racecourse in Peru. During its beginnings, it had the San Felipe Hippodrome, located in the Jesús María district, today the Residencial San Felipe. However, its capacity was not enough for the equestrian hobby, which is increasingly growing in Peru. In 1952, the Board of Directors headed by Mr. Ernesto Ayulo Pardo purchased the Monterrico Chico Farm, where the New Lima Racecourse would be installed, in an area that, at that time, was far from the main area of the city. The Monterrico Racecourse, its main venue, was inaugurated on December 18, 1960, with the Week End horse winning the first race. On February 17, 1966, the Recreation Center was inaugurated, replacing the old central location on Calle Belén, in Cercado de Lima, as a place of enjoyment for the members of the institution.
In the 1970s it reached a South American level, with the appearance of the great Peruvian stars (Santorín and Flor de Loto), who established Peruvian equestrianism at an international level, both in speed tests and in long-distance tests. In February 1995, the transmission of horse races began through its own satellite signal, currently called Monterrico Television.
In 1995, the administration rented a plot of land from the club, where the auxiliary sandpit track and the workshop were located, facing Javier Prado Avenue, where the Jockey Plaza was built, but which was sold in the 2000, by decision of the partners. In 1997, the Simulcasting system was inaugurated, which is currently up for contract renewal. It was in that same year that the infrastructure was renewed, changing the electronic race totalizer and the electric splitter, along with a new computing center for betting.
Currently, the Jockey Club of Peru has 1 grandstand for members, 1 grandstand for the general public and 1 pelousse in the middle of the race tracks, as well as several Simulcasting rooms, Concessions spread throughout Peru and a Training Center. Recreation for members.
