Joan Segarra
Joan Segarra Iracheta (*Barcelona (Spain), November 15, 1927-Taradell (Barcelona), September 3, 2008), was a Spanish footballer from the 50s, captain of the "Barça of the Five Cups", one of the best teams that F.C. Barcelona has had in its history. He played 16 seasons in the first team of F. C. Barcelona, between 1949 and 1965, in which he played a total of 528 games. This figure makes him the ninth player who has played the most games in the club's history, behind only Xavi, Puyol, Migueli, Valdés, Iniesta, Carles Rexach, Amor and Zubizarreta.
A player of extraordinary class and elegance, he was a wild card that could act in various positions depending on the team's needs, although he used to play in the center of midfield or defense. He had the honor of collecting as captain the multiple trophies that he won together with players from the category of Ramallets, Kubala, César, Moreno, Basora and Manchón.
Segarra was a regular starter for the Spanish team between 1951 and 1962, a period in which he played a total of 25 international matches.
Once he retired as an active player in 1965, he obtained the title of coach and directed various children's teams in the lower categories of F. C. Barcelona. At the end of the 1977/78 season he briefly managed FC Barcelona Atlètic, replacing Laureano Ruiz until Antoni Torres was appointed coach of the subsidiary for the 1978/79 season. However, in the final stretch of that season, Torres went to first team as assistant to Joaquim Rifé and Segarra was in charge of directing the subsidiary until the end of the course.
During the 1979-1980 season, he was Helenio Herrera's assistant when he took charge of the first team of F. C. Barcelona, after Rifé was dismissed.
