Jennifer O'Neill (Rio de Janeiro, February 20, 1948) is an American film actress.

Biography

She was born in Brazil, the daughter of a businessman of Spanish-Irish origin and an English mother. She has dual citizenship, as she maintained her Brazilian citizenship, then being a Brazilian and US citizen.

As a teenager, she began working as a model and appeared in television commercials and on the covers of some magazines. In 1968 she obtained a small role in the cinema, and two years later she also appeared in the film Rio Wolf, with John Wayne. In 1971 she got her chance with Summer of '42 , a film in which she plays a middle-aged war widow who lives an idyll with a teenager. With this film, more melancholic than erotic, she rose to fame.

Since then, O'Neill continued to act in films, but failed to land roles that would give her the opportunity to deliver memorable performances. However, he participated in the last film by Luchino Visconti, L & # 39; innocent (1976).

O'Neill was more successful on television, where he appeared on numerous occasions as the lead in TV movies and series. Among the latter, Cover Up (Male Model in its translation for Latin America) stands out, about a group of undercover secret agents under the guise of a modeling agency. The filming of this series in 1984 was involved in tragedy when the male lead, Jon-Erik Hexum, was killed by a sinister wretch: he was joking with a revolver loaded with blank cartridges and shot himself in the head. The shock wave and the cartridge wad fractured his skull, embedding bone fragments in his brain.

The actress also appeared in the ambitious Biblical miniseries A.D. Anno Domini (1985), in the role of Messalina, in which other great stars such as Ava Gardner, James Mason, Susan Sarandon or Fernando Rey participated.

O'Neill has been writing books for two decades. The first one she wrote, Surviving Myself (1999) talks about the process that led her to become a Christian; From Fallen To Forgiven, is a work with autobiographical notes and thoughts about life and about God, and You Are Not Alone supports the pro-life movement and laments the legalization of alcohol. abortion, but at the same time proposes women to find meaning in life through the Christian faith.).
