Jackson Day

AjustarCompartirImprimirCitar

Jackson Day is celebrated on January 8 in the United States. This day commemorates the Battle of New Orleans, which is an episode in the struggle of the American people to achieve their independence from the British government.

In reality, it is not made up of a single battle, but of a series of them comprised in the period that includes from December of 1814 to January of 1815. The American victory in this region forced the British to recognize the claims of the United States over Louisiana and the western part of Florida, which gives rise to the end of the American War of Independence and the political incorporation of the state of Louisiana into the Union. Commander Andrew Jackson led the US forces during this campaign, called "of the Gulf".
