Itachi is the first son of Fugaku Uchiha and Mikoto Uchiha. He is Sasuke Uchiha's older brother.
In both the anime and manga, he is considered an antagonist by many of the characters, having murdered almost all of his clan members (including his parents and his girlfriend), as well as deserting his village to become part of Akatsuki. This resulted in him being listed as a "Bingo Book" offender. as an S rank criminal ninja.
At first he appears as an apathetic and sometimes hysterical ninja, however, he is very fond of his younger brother, Sasuke. However, he dies at his hands due to the hatred that he had for the massacre of his clan. However, with the development of the anime and the manga, it is learned that he exterminated his family and deserted the village on orders from the high command of Konoha, in order to avoid a coup and a cruel Civil War, which could well have led to the intervention of the other nations and a new Great Ninja War.

Personality
Itachi at first proves to be a very cold, arrogant, indifferent and inconsiderate ninja, but with an extraordinary command of ninjutsu, genjutsu and especially in the handling of his Mangekyō Sharingan.
Although, during the fight against Sasuke, Itachi shows great love for his brother. However, he dies in front of his brother Sasuke due to the exhaustion of the fight and a deadly disease that he had suffered for a long time (apparently tuberculosis).). When he first appears, Itachi runs into Kakashi, whom he traps in his genjutsu and confesses that their abilities are very different and incomparable, but then Might Guy appears, who repels him. him and his partner Kisame Hoshigaki, and manages to make them leave without major consequences. Later, Itachi demonstrates the power of his Mangekyō, making use of Amaterasu when he is together with Kisame Hoshigaki and on Pain's orders, they go hunting for Kurama who is inside Naruto Uzumaki, but due to the intervention of the Sannin Jiraya they fail to capture him. Despite this, Itachi proves to be a ninja with a noble character and loyal to Konoha, as he obeyed the orders of the high command of the village (especially Danzō's whims) completely exterminating his entire clan, which characterizes him as a cold and remorseless person, coming to consider himself even more hostile than Sasuke; because during his return to Konoha he humiliates Sasuke, telling him that he is not yet ready and that he should only look for him the day he has the same eyes than him. This attitude reaches its peak in the conversation before Itachi's death, where he abandons his calm and carefree expression at the prospect of finally getting to kill Sasuke and seize his eyes. However, After Itachi's death, Obito explains to Sasuke that Itachi's only concern was the safety and strengthening of his little brother.
History
Before the saga
Itachi was the firstborn of Fugaku Uchiha, Leader of the Uchiha Clan, and Mikoto Uchiha. Itachi was considered a genius from a very early age; He awakened the Sharingan at the age of 8, graduated first in his class, and was appointed captain of the ANBU units at 13. For all of this, Itachi became Fugaku's favorite son and the center of attention throughout Konoha..
Itachi had a very close relationship with his little brother Sasuke, who saw him as a role model and was somewhat envious of him. However, as Itachi became more involved in the ANBU and the Uchiha Clan became increasingly at odds with the Council of Elders of the Hidden Leaf Village and their relations became colder, all this possibly as a result of Kurama's attack on the village and the death of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, since a member of the Uchiha Clan was supposedly behind the attack.
The Uchiha Clan then planned a coup to gain control of the village and they wanted Itachi to act as a spy, thanks to his privileged position as ANBU captain. However, Itachi decided to remain loyal to the Hidden Leaf Village and acted as a double-spy, informing the Third Hokage about his clan's movements. At one point, Danzō Shimura decided to give Itachi a choice: eliminate his family and protect the village from civil strife, or join his family and be eliminated along with them. Itachi also met Obito Uchiha (posing as Madara Uchiha), with whom he made a deal to eliminate the Uchiha Clan as long as Obito did not attack the village again. That same night, Itachi killed his entire family, including his parents. Little Sasuke looked at him and Itachi replied that he had only done it to test his power and that when he wanted to take revenge, he would have to become much stronger and obtain the Mangekyō Sharingan, just like he did.
Itachi leaves the village as a traitor and decides to join the Akatsuki, the most dangerous organization of criminals, although with the intention of infiltrating it and protecting the Hidden Leaf Village. At first he teamed up with Orochimaru, but he attacked him to try to take over his body and obtain the Sharingan, which in the end he did not succeed, since he used his Sharingan to put Orochimaru in a genjutsu and cut off his left arm. in the process. After Orochimaru's defection, Itachi began to team up with Kisame Hoshigaki, with whom he came to maintain a relationship of trust and respect.
Naruto
Itachi appears in the first part of the series after the death of the Third Hokage, protector of Konoha, infiltrating the village with Kisame Hoshigaki. After drawing the attention of Konoha's forces Itachi reveals that, as part of Akatsuki, he must capture the nine-tailed beast, Kurama, which is sealed in Naruto. During a fight with Konoha ninjas, he discovers that Naruto has left the village, and that he is under Jiraiya's protection. Itachi creates a diversion to draw Naruto away from Jiraiya and thus capture him. Sasuke, after hearing that Itachi had returned, intervenes in the fight willing to kill him to avenge the massacre of the entire clan, at the same time that Jiraiya returns. After tormenting Sasuke with the Tsukuyomi because he is still weak, Itachi and Kisame are forced to escape to avoid being captured by Jiraiya, who had imprisoned them in the stomach of the great toad of Mount Myoboku, however, he manages to open an exit using his Amaterasu. After Itachi's death in the second part of the series, it is revealed that this entire visit to Konoha was to remind the Konoha High Command of their promise to protect Sasuke.
Naruto: Shippuden
Itachi makes a brief appearance at the beginning of the second part, distracting Naruto and the rest of the team while they seal one of the tailed beasts they captured. Later, he learns that Sasuke has absorbed Orochimaru, a man who defected from Konoha in order to gain enough power to kill Itachi. Knowing that Sasuke has grown stronger and is coming after him, Itachi meets Naruto on the way. After his death, it is revealed that he gave some of his power to Naruto in order to protect Sasuke and Konoha in case the latter attacked the village. Sasuke ultimately tracks down Itachi and they have their final battle., during which Itachi uses his Mangekyō Sharingan to push Sasuke to the limit. Thus, Orochimaru leaves Sasuke's body, and Itachi seals him with his Susanoo's Tosuka sword, to keep him away from Sasuke after he dies due to his illness.
With his last act, Itachi implants his Amaterasu inside Sasuke as a failsafe that would kill Obito if he got close to Sasuke or if Obito's Sharingan entered. in eye contact with Sasuke's. Since this surprises Sasuke, Obito explains the truth about Itachi's past; which was forced by the Konoha Council of Elders to assassinate the Uchiha Clan, but Itachi forced them to respect Sasuke's life. Itachi suffered from a serious illness and was kept alive thanks to medicines, since he wanted to die at the hands of Sasuke. Now knowing that his brother hated having led a tragic long life due to Konoha's orders, Sasuke decides to destroy the village, even though Itachi had gone to such lengths to protect her.
Itachi is resurrected by Kabuto Yakushi's Edo Tensei to fight in the Fourth Shinobi World War and goes to the battlefield accompanied by Nagato. He is forced by Kabuto to fight Naruto, and in the battle he learns about Naruto and his brother's intentions to destroy Konoha. He then asks her to keep the truth about the Uchiha clan massacre a secret in order to protect the family's honor from him, and entrusts Naruto with the task of stopping Sasuke. Itachi summons a crow with a Sharingan on Naruto's body, which he had previously placed, which is the key to stopping Sasuke's destruction of Konoha. The technique is called Koto Amatsukami, a powerful genjutsu programmed from Shisui Uchiha's Mangekyō Sharingan, this jutsu forces the victim to follow his orders, thus freeing him from the Edo Tensei of Kabuto and forcing him to continue with his ideals of protecting Konoha. Itachi helps Naruto and Killer Bee defeat the resurrected Nagato, and later vows to stop the Edo Tensei.
After his encounter with Naruto and Killer Bee, Itachi heads to Kabuto's hideout, where he intends to defeat him in order to nullify the Edo Tensei. On his way, he meets Sasuke again, who was heading to the battlefield, however, Itachi did not stop his path, making his younger sister follow him closely with the intention of getting answers to some of the questions. of the. However, Itachi refuses to answer him, stating that he has an important mission to carry out.
Itachi and Sasuke arrive at Kabuto's hideout. He intends to ally with Sasuke to fight Itachi, knowing how dangerous the oldest of the Uchiha is. Sasuke refuses and both brothers fight Kabuto, who has managed to acquire Sage Mode. Itachi manages to trap Kabuto in Izanami, an ocular technique that is a counterpart to Izanagi and places the opponent in an infinite loop at the cost of never being able to use the Sharingan activating jutsu again. Taking advantage of the fact that Kabuto was immobile, Itachi successfully cancels the Edo Tensei and begins to fade, but before leaving the world of the living, Itachi reveals to his younger brother the whole truth about the massacre of the Uchiha Clan and about the wish and last will. that his parents made Itachi promise before his death and it was that whatever happened, he would take care of his younger brother Sasuke, an order that Itachi agreed to fulfill between tears of pain, even showing him the truth behind the death of Shisui Uchiha, where the latter mentioned how Danzo had taken his right Sharingan eye in a previous attack and also as a last will Shisui removes his left Sharingan eye and gives it to Itachi so that whatever happens, he will protect the village and that his eye did not fall into the hands of Danzo, finally shows him the moment when Danzo Shimura gave him to kill the entire clan, behind the back of the third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi in order to avoid a coup and his alliance with Obito as an accomplice in the massacre of the Uchiha clan so that the latter would leave the village alone. After finishing all the flashback, Itachi confesses to his brother that it was a mistake to want to carry all the responsibility alone and affirms that whatever Sasuke decides, he will always love him; After that, Itachi disappears due to the revocation of the Edo Tensei.
Skills
It is mentioned in the work that Itachi was an exceptional fighter with superlative intelligence; Orochimaru dedicated his life to possessing the power of his Sharingan, Obito and Nagato feared his power, and in his last battle, Kabuto wanted to ally with Sasuke knowing how dangerous Itachi was. In all his battles throughout the work, at no time does he display his full power (in his first appearance against Kakashi Hatake, Asuma Sarutobi and Kurenai Yuhi, he did not awaken his Mangekyō Sharingan and even so he was able to knock Kakashi out of action; against Naruto he used a clone that did not have even half of his power; against Sasuke himself he was practically blind and suffered the ravages of his illness, in addition to the fact that his intention was to eradicate Orochimaru's influence on his little brother).
Like all Uchiha, Itachi possesses a Sharingan; ocular technique with which he is able to copy all kinds of techniques from his enemies, managing to anticipate the opponent's movements and see them no matter how fast they are. Madara Uchiha told Itachi that there was a power higher than the normal sharingan, the Mangekyō Sharingan, but that he would get it on one condition: kill his best friend. As stated in the series by Madara, Itachi watches Shisui Uchiha die and in this way causes the Sharingan to advance to its next level: the Mangekyō Sharingan. When activated, the Mangekyō Sharingan completely changes the Sharingan's appearance and grants it to Itachi abilities derived from Japanese mythology. The first, the Tsukoyomi (月読, Tsukoyomi?), is an advanced level genjutsu that allows the user to control the enemy's mind making them believe that they are being tortured in a world created by the user, it can also alter people's perception. This technique has become one of the main weapons of the Uchiha. The second, Amaterasu (天照, Amaterasu?), generates flames black at the focal point that burn at the temperature of the sun's surface and do not extinguish until they have totally incinerated and destroyed their target; and although Itachi is not shown, he can put out Amaterasu's flames without negative effects, unlike Sasuke. The final technique, Susano'o (須佐能乎, Susano'o?), creates a large ethereal and skeletal creature that progressively turns into a flaming being with a pronounced nose, a demonic face and some kind of armor; This creature can protect its summoner from attacks and fight for him, it also has the Sword of Totsuka that has the ability to seal people in a parallel world and the Yata mirror that repels any technique, in addition, it has the ability Yasaka Magatama where he throws magatamas and generates a large explosion being his ranged technique with Susano'o more powerful. Despite the effectiveness of the techniques, the Mangekyō Sharingan deteriorates Itachi's eyesight until to the point of blinding him completely.

Various manga, anime, video game, and other media publications have provided both praise and criticism of Itachi's character. IGN's Jason Van Horn characterizes him as "evil" and jokingly mentioned that it is a character he is afraid of, since in his first battle in the series he did not make a single move. He also argues that Itachi's fights are the best in the series. Jason Van Horn argues that the fight between Itachi and Sasuke was "very good", but "not as epic as it should have been". However, his last fight with Sasuke before he died is considered as "epic" by ANN's Casey Brienza.
