«Isobel» is the second single taken from the album Post by the Icelandic artist Björk. The song describes a primitive girl who seems to be a personification of Mother Nature, and who tries to warn the technological world about her potential dangers. Björk chose the name Isobel as it was derived from Isolated which in English means "isolated". The music is made up of powerful strings, electronic beats, and a jungle-influenced intro.

The theme is a continuation of the song Human Behavior. The song Bachelorette on the album Homogenic is the follow up to "Isobel" and the one that culminates the saga. In the video clip for "Bachelorette" at the beginning you see a book that says "My Story: Isobel goes to the city" making a clear reference to "Isobel". The lyrics in both themes were provided by the Icelandic poet Sjón

The song features the phrase "Moth delivers her message/Unexplained on your collar" (& # 34; The moth leaves her / Inexplicable message on your necklace & # 34;), which refers to a moth that landed on Björk's favorite T-shirt. Björk wore the shirt all day, even took it off to swim, but the moth stayed on the shirt.

Video Clip

The surreal video for Isobel was directed by French director Michel Gondry. The video was recorded in black and white. In it, Björk appears playing a piano full of pipes that fill it with water. Some children play in the water and wear masks. Later Björk is lying by a river in a dress with lights. She takes some of the lights and plants them in the ground; from them grow planes that go outside and fly. At the same time, several skyscrapers grow out of the ground and are sometimes covered by cockroaches. Björk also appears in the countryside, on a mountain and next to a river.
