Elvira Teresa Eory Sidi (in Persian: اِلویرا تِرِهسا اِئوری سیدیه; Tehran, October 21, 1939-Mexico City, March 10, 2002), known as Iran Eory (Persian: ایران اِئوری), was an Austrian actress. She rose to fame in Mexico after moving to that country in the late 1960s.

Biography and career

Eory, c.1950s.

Iran Eory was born in Tehran, Iran, the daughter of Austrian diplomat Friederich Eory and Angela Sidi. She moved to Morocco, then a French protectorate, at a young age, and from there to Spain. At 16, she won a beauty pageant in Monaco. At that time she began her career in Spanish cinema and in the following three decades she alternated her performances within the genre in Argentina and Italy, as well as Mexico where she permanently resided until her death.

His first film was The Devil Plays the Flute (1954), which was followed by various films, although he stood out more in comedy productions such as That red-haired rogue, The Art of Not Marrying and Boys with Girls.[citation needed]

During the 1960s, he took part in numerous titles with leading Spanish filmmakers, such as with José María Forqué in Room 703 (1962); with Fernando Palacios, in Vuelve San Valentín (1963); with José Luis Sáenz de Heredia, in La verbena de la Paloma (1963); with Juan de Orduña, in Nobleza baturra (1963), and with Pedro Lazaga, in You will not want your neighbor's wife (1968).[citation required]

He organized his film activity with continuous appearances on Spanish television in different series, such as Girls in the City (1961), Confidencias (1963-1965), Historias de mi barrio (1964) or Tiempo y hora (1966) or in spaces that made television history, such as El unreal Madrid, by Valerio Lazarov. Especially remembered was his strip-tease feint in Chicho Ibáñez Serrador's satire Historia de la frivolidad (1967).[citation required]

In 1969, she arrived in Mexico accompanied by her parents and invited by the writer Yolanda Vargas Dulché to film the movie Rubí, with Aldo Monti and Carlos Bracho, where she played a very physically beautiful woman, but without feelings. Eory came to consider this country as his "second homeland". In 1970, and in response to the invitation of José Ángel Espinosa, "Ferrusquilla" —who, at the behest of Rodolfo Echeverría, searched in Spain for actresses whose beauty could be highlighted in a cinematographic cultural event that would take place that year— settled with his mother in Mexico, where he continued his career in both film and theater (Las Leandras) and, above all, television. That same year, she arrived in Argentina and shot the movie Muchacho with the Argentine singer-songwriter Sandro. She also ventured into singing, back in Mexico, creating several vinyl records with romantic-style recordings. In his later years, he participated almost exclusively in telenovelas on the Televisa television network, where he would achieve great success by starring in telenovelas such as Mundo de juguete (1974-1977), Doménica Montero (1978) and Principessa (1984-1986). She also worked in other successful telenovelas, such as Rosángela (Venevisión, 1978), Cuando llega el amor (1989-1990), where she acted alongside Lucero and Omar Fierro; La pícara soñadora (1991), where she acted alongside Mariana Levy and Eduardo Palomo; Carrusel de las Américas (1992), where she again played the same role as The dreamy rogue ; María la del barrio (1995-1996) and La usurpadora (1998), Gotita de Amor (1998), among others.[citation required]

She was romantically linked for many years to Chilean-Mexican actor Carlos Monden. Together they worked in the theater and on television.

Her last appearance on television was in 2001 in the children's soap opera Aventuras en el tiempo, where she played Belinda in a futuristic way as she would look as an adult.[citation required]

Illness and death

Carlos Monden, his partner, commented that two years before he died, Eory had been diagnosed with Binswanger's disease, which would cause a benign cerebral edema that reduced his strength on the right side of his body. The actress was told that it was a tumor known as gliomatosis cerebri, which would ultimately cause her death.

On March 8, 2002, Eory fainted at home and was taken to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage. On March 10, Eory passed away at the age of 62 due to edema and tumor His funeral was held that same day, which was attended by the actresses Silvia Pinal and Julieta Egurrola. The following day, his body was cremated in the Spanish Pantheon and his ashes were buried next to those of his father in the Panteón de las Lomas located in Naucalpan de Juárez, State of Mexico. Monden, his life companion, died nine years later on April 22, 2011 and was buried in the Mausoleos del Ángel cemetery.
