International politics is a socio-cultural relationship. For each State, its main foreign policy priorities are at the same level in the geographically neighboring States, in relations with those countries that have a vote in the United Nations, in international organizations based mainly in New York and Geneva and with those countries with whom it maintains privileged economic relations.

Modern foreign policy must obey State criteria; to a perception of the historical synthesis of the location of a country in the world, to an adequate reading of the challenges of globalization and its impact on the life of each one of the individuals of a nation.

Internal policy variable

Foreign policy is also a variable of domestic policy. International, political, strategic, commercial, financial, social, demographic, scientific-technological, cultural and communication processes can negatively or positively influence a government's efforts to consolidate democracy and the rule of law, advancing in the transformation.

Interpretation of national and international reality

International politics interprets the national reality and relates it to the positive and eventually negative trends of globalization, based on bordering, regional and global relations. From the results of the equation between the demands of the internal political, economic and social process, and the limits and possibilities offered by the globalized world environment, the conceptual bases, attributes, national interests, principles, agenda, priorities emerge. and the institutional management model of a country's foreign policy.

In the modern state, government institutions constitute the generally accepted political instruments to maintain a framework of order in society and in states.

Objectives

The objective of foreign policy is to generate and preserve an environment of peace, détente, stability and respect for international law, in the bordering, subregional, regional and global spheres, in order to obtain the most suitable scenario that allow you to apply diplomacy appropriate to your interests. A diplomacy for economic and social development with equity.

We normally aspire to a world based on balance, respectful of the principles of international law, in which multilateralism, far from being weakened, is strengthened. A world where it is understood that globalization requires governance based on the values of human rights.

An international structure where there is less inequality between and within nations. A world that makes sustainable development not just a program, but a reality in which the axis of sustainability is human beings.

Historical principles

In this context, foreign policy is based on some historical principles and others derived from modernity:

  • Autonomy and affirmation of national and social leaders of foreign policy.
  • Preservation of national sovereignty and the integrity of the State.
  • Peaceful settlement of disputes.
  • Promotion of the values of democracy and respect for human rights.
  • Protection of national and foreign interests.
  • Open regionalism, solidarity and openness to universal flows.
  • Unity, coherence and decentralization in foreign policy management.

Multidimensional

This basic agenda is applied using all foreign policy instruments, bilateral and multilateral, being international politics multidimensional.

In today's world, globalization has reduced spaces and expanded communications, for this reason the direct diplomacy of the head of state or government is also an essential instrument of contemporary international relations. Also civilly ordered in each retrospective state.
