Inger Stevens (October 18, 1934 - April 30, 1970) was a Swedish-American actress.

Biography

She was born Inger Stensland in Stockholm. While they were still living in Sweden, her parents divorced. Stevens then moved with her father to the United States when she was 13 years old. At the age of 16, she left home and began working in New York as a showgirl in burlesque and menial shows. However, at the same time she studied at the prestigious acting school Actor's Studio.

Later, he managed to break into the world of advertising and television, making commercials and small appearances in films and television series. His big break came in 1957, when he was offered a role in the feature film Man on Fire, starring Bing Crosby. From there he had offers to participate in other films, some of which were box office successes.

Nonetheless, Stevens became a popular actress more than a television movie. With the leading role of her in the series The Farmer & # 39; s Daughter she obtained considerable success, as with her appearances in series such as The Twilight Zone, Bonanza Route 66 and The Hitchcock Hour.

In her privacy she was an insecure woman, who was frequently ill. She committed suicide with an overdose of barbiturates.

In April 1970, Inger was hired to work on the crime series The Most Deadly Game, but less than a week later her landlady keys found her unconscious on the kitchen floor. She died on the way to the hospital from acute barbiturate poisoning (a lethal combination of drugs and alcohol).

After her death, it emerged that since 1961 she had been secretly married to Ike Jones, an African-American actor, something that was not tolerated in Hollywood at the time. She had previously been married to Anthony Soglio for three years. When she died, Stevens was only 35 years old.
