Ibrillos is a town and a municipality located in the province of Burgos, autonomous community of Castilla y León (Spain), region of Montes de Oca, judicial district of Briviesca, council of the same name.

History

Ibrillos was a fortress, located on the current hill (hermitage of Ntra. Sra. de la Peña), disputed by Muslims and Christians, and which was important at the end of the 9th century. It was part of a security cordon that went from Cerezo de Río Tirón to Pazuengos, and which, in the case of Arab rule, defended against Christian attacks that came from the Montes de Ayago, Sierra de la Demanda. And in the case of the Christians, it contained the Muslims from their raids to control and loot the area. The Muslims never had political, administrative, economic, or military control of the mountains that were to the south of that cordon formed by the castles and fortresses of Cerezo de Río Tirón, Ibrillos, Torre de Villaorceros, Mirabel (Cerro de Grañón), and Pazuengos. At the fall of the Old Regime, it was constituted as a constitutional council of the same name in the Belorado party, Castilla la Vieja region, it then had 106 inhabitants.
