Ibero-American Telecommunications Organization
The Ibero-American Telecommunications Organization (OTI) (previously called Ibero-American Television Organization) is an organization of television networks in Latin America, United States, Spain and Portugal. Its goal was to promote relations between television stations in the region. Within its activities, it shared news, cultural, educational and sports programming among its members. Now it is a space for collaboration, dialogue, reflection and action for the main content and telecommunications companies in Latin America and the United States to contribute to promoting the development of content and access to connectivity services.
History
The OTI was founded in Mexico City on March 19, 1971 by Guillermo Cañedo de la Bárcena. Its structure was composed of a General Assembly and an Executive Council where its members were represented in proportion to the number of televisions per home that each country owned. Among the public activities of the OTI, the best known was the OTI Song Festival, which held 28 editions between 1972 and 2000.[citation required]
It had a weekly news program called OTI Information Services for public channels that began broadcasting on January 10, 2000. In 2006, a television channel called Canal NOTIcias was created, in which The newscasts of the OTI member channels were broadcast, the channel ceased its transmissions on March 31, 2008.
This organization has broadcast the Olympic Games (winter and summer), the Soccer World Cups and the Pan American Games, among other events. This organization had agreements with the Fundación Para Una Vida Mejor, for its advertising spaces on television.[citation required]
In April 2016 the OTI changed its name to Ibero-American Telecommunications Organization, which is now dedicated to making telecommunications content.
