I
The i (uppercase I, noun i, plural ies) is the ninth letter of the alphabet Spanish and the basic Latin alphabet and its third vowel. Its name in Spanish is also Latin i to differentiate it from y.
In Spanish it represents the sound of a closed and previous vowel. This letter must be distinguished from the Greek alphabet letter iota represented with a similar glyph, Ι, and that of the Cyrillic alphabet, І.

Origin of the point of the «i»
In Greek times the iota did not have a dot on it. In the Romance languages it began to be written in cursive, and the U was confused with the I when they were linked; to differentiate them, it was decided to endow the letter I with a dot.
