Metal Hurlant is also the French title of the film Heavy Metal and the show Monster Garage.

Métal Hurlant ("Howling metal" in literal translation) is the name of a French science fiction comics magazine, published between 1974 and 1987. It was also released in Italy, Germany, England, the United States (under the title of Heavy Metal) and Spain. He had a notable influence on the medium, promoting a science fiction boom and the emergence of other cooperative initiatives, such as the Spanish Rambla.

Editorial trajectory

It was created in December 1974 by Moebius, Jean-Pierre Dionnet and Philippe Druillet, shortly after they formed a group with the collective name of Les Humanoïdes Associés. According to the first, in it «we find the entire range of human opinions, all social discourses; the opening is the only presupposition".

Publication ended in July 1987.

As of July 2002, it began to be published again by Humanoids Publishing, with versions in French, English, Spanish and Portuguese, under the original French name. Today it is a two-way transatlantic (France-US) magazine, led by Fabrice Giger in Los Angeles. Publish original short stories, which may or may not be related to existing or already published comic books. Their goal is to discover young creators, and also to promote the publisher's products.

Metal Hurlant in Spanish

The material in the magazine was published for the first time within the Spanish magazine Totem. It did not appear with its own title until 1981, also edited by Editorial Nueva Frontera (the first three numbers); the rest, up to 47, was dealt with by Eurocomic. In 2002 Devir Iberia would resume its publication with the comic book size. Six numbers are those that the new publishing house published. In 2013 Norma Editorial began the publication of the Métal hurlant collection, on a monthly basis, taking Moebius as a reference and including the following titles:

  1. The Long Tomorrow
  2. The man of the Ciguri
  3. The blind citadel
  4. Scale in Pharagonescia
  5. The holidays of the Major
  6. The hermetic garage
  7. Arzach
  8. The mad empalmado
  9. Caos / Metallic Chronicles
