Hoth
Hoth is a fictional planet from the Star Wars universe that belongs to the solar system of the same name. It appears in the movie The Empire Strikes Back, the fifth episode of the saga. It is a frozen world reaching temperatures of -32°C during the day and -60°C at night.
Hoth is also the name of the second expansion of the collectible card game Star Wars CCG. It consists of 162 letters (163 with the K-3PO errata) and was published in December 1996.
Geography
Hoth is located near Bespin, Ison, and Anoat, and is the end of an important trade route.
Life on the planet is possible thanks to the gravitational pull of its three moons, which cause tides under the ice. The tides break up the solid plates and allow the algae to send some oxygen out, which provides food for the two types of animals native to the planet. Algae and lichens are eaten by tauntaun manakins and these are eaten by the gigantic wampa biped. There are hardly any poisonous rodents or ice worms that enrich the variety of species on the planet.
History
During the Old Republic the planet was only reported to exist. It was pirates who crash-landed on the planet that reported several of the lesser-known species, such as the deep-ocean dragon slug.
The largest cataloging was carried out by the rebels, who created their main base there, Echo Base, the most modern until the creation of the New Republic. The rebels trained tauntaun and created tunnels that would be their base and vehicles to go through the ice. The biggest battle during those times of civil war took place on the surface. The rebels barely evacuated equipment.
The planet was visited by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker years later, and even some of his Jedi initiates like Jaden Korr investigated the area for possible Imperial activity.
Hoth was kept safe in Yuuzhan Vong times by not having a strategic location and being on the opposite side of the invasion site.
