Argument
After the Third World War, the planet became a desolate and hostile place, few people have survived this catastrophe and water became the most precious resource in the world, just as strength is the most precious ability. necessary, because only the strongest dominate the world. This will change when a man, who is known by some as "the savior of the end of the century", appears and puts into practice the Hokuto Shinken, which is a martial art with devastating effects on adversaries. With this he will help himself understand and fulfill his destiny in this new world, while helping the helpless survivors achieve a more dignified life.
Main characters
- Kenshirō: is the protagonist. Sometimes it is called 'Ken', it is the 64 successor of the martial art style "Hokuto Shinken", and the youngest disciple of Master Ryuken. He has seven scars on his chest in the form of the "Hokuto Shichisei" or Osa Mayor. Traveling through a geographically devastated world, together with Lynn and Bat, must restore tranquility to the survivors of the holocaust. His goal is to meet his girlfriend Yuria.
- Lynn: An orphaned girl who was mute because of the trauma that caused her to see how vandals killed her family. When Kenshiro cures her, she decides to accompany her on her journey. In the course of the series she will know the lineage of which she belongs.
- Bat: he is a very agile street child who knows how to repair and drive vehicles. This one, seeing Ken's skills, decides to follow him with the idea that being with such a strong man will not be hungry.
- Yuria: Also called Julia. Wished by many but his heart only belongs to Kenshiro. She is a good-hearted woman and helps everyone without distinction. He has vast musical knowledge and knows how to play the harp, usually intonating sad and melancholic melodies. Although at the beginning of history she appears only as Kenshiro's girlfriend, she will have a crucial destiny in this "new world".
- Raoh: he is the eldest of the four adoptive children and disciples of Master Ryuken. Despite his ambition to become the most powerful warrior in the world and possess superhuman strength and strength, destiny chose Ken as successor to Hokuto Shinken. Refusing to abandon the style and that his skills are sealed, after the Nuclear War, Raoh murders a Ryuken sick by age and then formed his own army of combat to conquer and rule the world, taking the name of King Ken-oh. Raoh possesses "Kokuoh", a demon horse. In the course of the series he will claim Yuria as his wife, as he sees Kenshiro as a lower being and unable to protect her. At the beginning of his appearance he is shown as an implacable being without feelings. His pursuit of attaining the heavens demonstrates his ambition for conquests.
- Toki: He is the second of the four adopted children of Master Ryuken. In a quiet and willing character to help the needy, known by his brothers as the possessor of the "puño of goodness". According to Kenshiro, he was called to be the successor of Hokuto Shinken for his impeccable techniques and preparation. Before the nuclear war he was a doctor using his knowledge of the Hokuto Shinken to heal the sick, unfortunately during the nuclear explosion he risked his life locked in a silo to Kenshiro, Yuria and other survivors (between most children), because of radiation, he is sick and has a short time of life, so he decides to go around the world using his knowledge to heal and care for the sick.
Production
Tetsuo Hara was a fan of Chinese actor and martial artist Bruce Lee, as well as action manga and Japanese action film actor Yūsaku Matsuda as a teenager in the 1970s. As he did not have a videocassette recorder at that time time, he often drew manga versions of Lee and Matsuda from memory. Hara later came up with the idea for Fist of the North Star after being contacted by his editor Nobuhiko Horie, who asked him, "You want to write a manga about Chinese martial arts, right?" 3. 4; According to Hara, Horie suggested that he draw a manga about "a martial artist who destroys his opponents by hitting their pressure points." based on Hara's aspiration to draw a manga about martial arts and his knowledge of pressure points. At the time, Hara was having trouble breaking into the market, as his first series, The Iron Don Quixote (a manga about motocross racing), was canceled ten weeks after his debut. For the new manga, Hara combined the appearance and character traits of Bruce Lee and Yūsaku Matsuda to create the protagonist, Kenshiro. He also took inspiration from the Ultraman and Tiger Mask series to create interesting enemy designs.
A prototype version of Fist of the North Star was published as a one-off story in the April 1983 issue of Fresh Jump, followed by Fist of the North Star II, a second one-off story published in the June issue. from 1983. Both stories were originally collected in the second tankōbon volume of The Iron Don Quixote, Hara's previous series (although the 1995 expanded editions move the first part of the Fist of the North Star pilot to the first volume, leaving the second volume with only the second pilot).
The two one-shots were well received in Fresh Jump reader polls and Tetsuo Hara was commissioned to turn Fist of the North Star into a weekly series. Buronson was assigned to work with him as a writer for the serialized version. The story was revamped, with the current 1980s setting in the original version replaced by a post-apocalyptic future world, and protagonist Kenshiro, originally a teenager framed for a crime he did not commit in the prototype Hara story, was became an older, more stoic hero with a tragic past. For the new setting, Hara was inspired by the post-apocalyptic film Mad Max 2 (1981), the cyberpunk film Blade Runner (1982), the post-apocalyptic Japanese cyberpunk manga Akira (1982) by Katsuhiro Otomo, and the illustrations by artists Syd Mead and Frank Frazetta.
Buronson cited Bruce Lee and Mad Max as his two biggest influences on Fist of the North Star. He stated that Kenshiro and martial arts were inspired by martial artist Bruce Lee and his Hong Kong action kung fu films. the 1970s, while the post-apocalyptic setting was inspired by the Mad Max film series (debuted in 1979). Fist of the North Star was also influenced by Go Nagai's manga series Violence Jack (debut 1973), which similarly had a post-apocalyptic desert setting with motorcycle gangs, anarchic violence, ruined buildings, innocent civilians, bosses tribal and small abandoned towns; It has been argued that Mad Max may also have been influenced by Violence Jack. Hara and Buronson were originally contracted to make Fist of the North Star for three years, but due to its popularity and publisher demand, it was extended to five years.

Fighting styles
Hokuto Shinken
Hokuto Shinken (北斗神拳-The Divine Fist of the North Star) also known as (北斗神拳, Pinyin: Běidǒu Shénquá) is a fictional Chinese/Japanese martial art over 2000 years old, used by Kenshirō and your brothers. This commonly results in the explosion of the struck part, which can lead to instant death. It can also rob an opponent of control over their body, use it on itself to increase strength, or miraculously heal wounds. Unlike other martial arts such as Nanto Seiken, there can only be one successor, and it is commonly passed from father to son or another blood relative. Applicants who were not chosen had their fists sealed. and they will have to give up the style: their fists will be destroyed, their memory will be erased or their motor skills will be diminished so that they cannot practice martial arts. Hokuto Shinken bases its power on the secret meridian points (経絡秘孔-keiraku hiko). There are 708 tsubos in the body, which govern the flows of energy (chi), and through their pressure this energy can be manipulated at will. Thus, the Hokuto Shinken can be used to kill in a very cruel and traumatic way (in fact it can make the internal organs burst, the head or chest explode, even choosing the duration: it can kill instantly or after several minutes or even days); However, it can also be used for healing (analogous to acupuncture). In general, it is considered the supreme martial art, fallen from Heaven, to govern man, hence tsubo can be used not only to kill or give life, but to control the thoughts and physical and motor abilities of people. Hokuto Shinken's astrological symbol is the "Hokuto Shichisei" (北斗七星), which is an asterism formed by the seven most visible stars of the Big Dipper. It should not be confused with Polaris, the North Star in the West. Next to the Hokuto stars, there is a star called Shichou-sei (the cursed star of death). Those who see the Shichou-sei will be destined to die within the year[citation needed]. This star is known as the Alcor star in the West. Many of the fictional martial arts techniques shown in video games and Japanese anime or manga are based on the techniques of the Hokuto Shinken.
Nanto Seiken
The Nanto Seiken (南斗聖拳 The Sacred Fist of the Southern Star? sup>) has 108 schools, of which the six Nanto Rokusei Ken ( 南斗六聖拳 The Six Sacred Fists of the Southern Star?) are considered the main ones. This style generally focuses on dazzling maneuvers that use energy to slice and pierce their enemies. Many of his attacks are so fast that the enemy does not realize he has died until he falls to pieces.
The astrological symbol of Nanto Seiken is the Nanto Rokusei (南斗六聖拳 the six stars of the south< sup>?), which are part of the Sagittarius constellation in the west. It has no relation to the Southern Cross. With the exception of the Phoenix style (Souther), the other schools of Nanto may have more than one successor.
Gento Kōken
Gento Kōken (元斗皇拳-The Imperial Fist of the Original Star) is a style developed to protect the celestial empress, Lui (Lin's twin sister). His main heir is Falco the Golden. This style destroys the opponent's body at a cellular level using currents of cold and heat. Each heir of this style is associated with a color.
The astrological symbol of Gento is the Tentei-sei (天帝星 the star of the celestial lord), which is also known as Polaris in the west.
Hokuto Ryūken
Hokuto Ryūken (北斗琉拳-The Fist of the Shining Stone of the North Star) is a branch of the Hokuto Sōke (北斗宗家 the Hokuto Family) that was formed together with Hokuto Shinken 1800 years ago in the land of Asura. It is used by the three Rashō (the Asura Generals) and Shachi. Unlike Hokuto Shinken, which uses the 708 points of the Keiraku Hikō, Hokuto Ryūken has 1,109 destructive meridian points (経絡破孔-Keiraku Hakō). Practitioners of this style use "Matōki" (魔闘気-evil aura) to do their techniques, which can mentally harm the practitioner of this style. It is also known under the name Hokuto Ryūkaken (北斗劉家拳 - The Fist of the Liu Family of the North Star) in Sōten no Ken.
Hokuto Sōke no Ken
Secret style of the Hokuto Sōke family, it is an ancestral style that only very few know and have practiced. The secret of this technique is sealed in the Taiseden palace in the western desert of the land of Shura. To open this seal you need a special key. Hyo is a practitioner of this style.
Hokumon no Ken
Hokumon no Ken (北門の拳-the fist of the northern gate) is a variant of the Hokuto Shinken, created two hundred years ago by an aspirant who renounced the title of successor and began to use its techniques in a healing way; Within history, its practitioners use it to ensure that the last arsenal of biological and nuclear weapons on earth does not fall into the wrong hands. Therefore, they cannot leave their monastery, a rule that Seiji violated. Like the Hokuto Shinken, it uses pressure points to heal or destroy the human body.
Taizanji Kempo
Taizanji Kempo (泰山寺拳法?, "martial arts of the Taishan temple") is the original rival style of Hokuto Shinken, as can be seen in the pilot episode of Hokuto no Ken; written and drawn by Tetsuo Hara. At first it was a criminal organization, which had influences on great figures in world politics; those who did not follow his orders were brutally murdered. But when Buronson took over the script for the series, this organization became a minor martial arts school. Its most important representatives in the manga are Ryuga (泰山天狼拳?, "Taizan Tenroken or Fist of the Heavenly Wolf of Taizan") and Uigur, Cassandra's warden (泰山流双条鞭?, 34;Taizan-ryu sojo Ben' or Taishan School of the Twin Whips').
Rakan Nio Ken
(羅漢仁王拳?, "fist of King Arhat Deva") is a 5,000-year-old style of assassination from India. It is used by Devil Rebirth, a prisoner at Villany Prison. Only the one chosen as a successor can be called Devil Rebirth or 'incarnation of the Devil'.
