Locomotivea GWR 4900 Class, No. 5972, used as Hogwarts Express in the film version Harry Potter.

The Hogwarts Express is a fictional scarlet train in the Harry Potter book series written by J. K. Rowling. It is described as a large red snake that runs along the path, going from platform nine and three-quarters (9¾), at King's Cross railway station in London, to the town of Hogsmeade. so that there the students go directly to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In the books and movies, Platform 9¾, which is invisible to the eyes of non-magical people (Muggles), is reached through the barrier between platforms 9 and 10.*

Disembarking at Hogsmeade Station, the first-year students take a boat across the lake to Hogwarts castle with Hagrid or whoever is substituting for him. The students of the other years are taken in carriages pulled by creatures that are invisible to most people called "thestrals" (**).

It was aboard the Hogwarts Express that Harry Potter first met his two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. He has traveled aboard it every year, except in his second year (in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) when he and his friend Ron missed their train and had to fly to Hogwarts in the car. from Ron's parents.

The Hogwarts Express is a steam train only in appearance, as it is powered by magic.

(*) Today, this platform is signposted at King's Cross.

(**) The "thestrals" are discovered in the 5th Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
