The Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecommunications (ETSIT) is a center of the Polytechnic University of Madrid where Telecommunications Engineering, Engineering Biomedical and Data Engineering.

History

Telecommunication studies arose with the creation of the General School of Telegraphy (located on Calle Conde de Peñalver) through a Royal Decree of 1913. Seven years later the title of Telecommunications engineer was created.

The school became dependent on the Ministry of Education in 1957, changing its name to its current name. Its location was also changed to Ciudad Universitaria in 1965.

In 1971 it was integrated with the rest of the Engineering Schools of Madrid when it became part of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In 1994, a double degree agreement was signed with ENST-Telecom Paris.
In 2003 the Joaquín Serna Telecommunication Museum was inaugurated.
In 2010, the new curriculum adapted to the European Higher Education Area began to be taught. In 2011 the new degree in Biomedical Engineering began to be taught. In 2020, the new degree in Engineering and Data Systems begins to be taught.

Buildings

The school consists of four buildings in which classrooms, student laboratories, research laboratories and professors' and professors' offices are distributed:

  • Building A (Sanz Mancebo)

In which the largest number of classrooms and student laboratories are located. There are also some teachers' offices as well as the main classroom, the meeting room, the grade room, the assembly room, the library, the cafeteria, the student clubs, the secretariat and the address.

  • Building B (García Redondo)

In it are the rest of the classrooms (known as the "B"'s), some student laboratories and numerous research laboratories and teachers' offices. This building is connected to the previous one by means of an elevated walkway known as "the accelerator".

  • Building C (Lopez Araujo)

It communicates with building B. Inside it mainly houses research laboratories and professors' offices, but you can also find the museum and a second assembly hall. Attached to this building is the Solar Energy Institute.

  • Building D

Recently built, it is connected to building A and is partly conceived as a business incubator, as well as containing more research laboratories and offices. It also has an entrance to the library that is open during extraordinary hours.

Curiosities

  • The school appears in the movie Laughing dead of Alex of the Church, pretending to be the studies of Prado of the King of RTVE during February 23, 1981.
