Hei tiki.

A hei tiki is a Maori figurine in the shape of a human or humanoid fetus normally only worn as a pendant by women as a powerful magical fertility talisman. The magic of a hei tiki increases as it passes from one generation to the next and, especially, if it has belonged to someone of prestige.

For some, the hei tiki serves as protection against the vengeful spirits of stillborn children while others maintain that it is nothing more than a representation of Tiki, the Polynesian god creator of life.

Hei tikis are often carved from pounamu and are highly sought after by Western collectors. Currently they can also be made in bone with Haliotis Iris inlays in the eyes.
