hestur (also known as hestoy , whose translation of the fierce would be the island of horses ) is one of the 18 islands in the which is composed of the archipelago of the Faroe Islands, located in the Norway Sea.

Image of the island immortalized on a 2000 ferocious seal.

The colonization of the island took place during the time when the first Viking settlers were established in the archipelago. At the top Hælur objects of that era have been found.

On the southern slope of this top, and due to weather conditions, the inhabitants of the island have developed cereal cultivation, becoming the main engine of the island economy (since geographical conditions are not conducive to the fishing).

The island, like many other places in the archipelago, is suffering the phenomenon of emigration, since many of its inhabitants prefer to live in more extensive nuclei. In 1919, a terrible accident of a fishing boat was the death of the third part of the male population of hestur .
