Henri Namphy (Cape Haitian, November 2, 1932 - Dominican Republic, June 26, 2018) was a Haitian military and politician.

Biography

President de facto from February 6, 1986 to February 7, 1988. He exercised the new regime known as "Duvalierismo without Duvalier."

He held the presidency of Haiti in an interim government by the military junta, which overthrew the dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier “Bébé Doc”, ending almost 30 years of personalist rule by the Duvalier family, but no end to Duvalierism.

After his appointment, Namphy maintained the dictatorship, he was replaced in office by the elected Dr. Leslie Manigat on February 7, 1988; he continued as head of the army and in a coup he seized power again when President Manigat retired him in June 1988. But in September of that year another general, Prosper Avril, ousted him from the presidency by means of a new hit.
