Halych
Hálych (Ukrainian: Галич, German: Halytsch) is a historic city on the banks of the Dniester River in western Ukraine.
Place name
This city of Halicz (its name in Polish) gave its name to Galitzia, or Galicia, a region in Eastern Europe. The place name "Galicia" it is nothing more than the name of the city of Halicz, in Latin.
Old Halych
This city gave its name to the historical region of Galicia and was the capital of the Principality of Galicia as well as the Principality of Galicia-Volyn until the XIV, when the throne was transferred to Lviv.
In 1994, the Ukrainian government created the Ancient Halych National Reserve, which includes the current village of Krylos, to preserve the historical-cultural heritage.

It is the central city of Halych Raion (district) in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (province) (Іва́но-Франкі́вська о́бласть).
It is 26 km from the city of Ivano-Frankivsk, the capital of the province. The population of Hálych is estimated at 6,406 inhabitants.
