.hack//Liminality
.hack//Liminality is one of the four original narratives of the.hack Project. It consists of 4 OVAs that were sold included with each of the PlayStation 2 video games:
- .hack//Liminality: In the case of Minase Mai (In the case of Mai Minase)
- .hack//Liminality: In the case of Aihara Yuko (In the case of Yuki Aihara)
- .hack//Liminality: In the case of Tonho Kyoko (In the case of Kyoko Tonho)
- .hack//Liminality: Trismegistus
The stories told within .hack//Liminality take place at the same time as the history of the videogames but in the real world, while "hackers" they try to solve the mysteries in The World. It narrates the attempt of three girls and a former director of the CC Company (the company that markets The World), to recover the players in a coma. Almost no events are shown in the game The World.
Each episode focuses on one of the protagonists and in the last one they carry out their plan to save The World and the coma victims.
Episodes
In the case of Minase Mai
Mai and her boyfriend Tomonari Kasumi passed out while playing The World. She woke up, but her boyfriend didn't. From that moment she will begin to be followed by a strange man named Junichiro Tokuoka who claims to be investigating the reason for these strange commas.
In the case of Aihara Yuki
Aihara Yuki (Yukichin) is meeting Junichiro to talk about the coma victims, but as he waits for him to arrive all the devices connected to the Internet go haywire and soon the situation turns into chaos. Yuki will try to escape with a woman who works in the shopping center where she was.
In the case of Tohno Kyoko
Junichiro and Kyoko have met to discuss the Twilight Epitaph, Harald Hoërwick and Emma Wielant to find a possible cure for coma victims. During the meeting they receive a message signed by Helba, name of the Queen of Darkness, one of the characters in the Twilight Epitaph. From now on they will have to follow a game proposed by her to meet Bith the Black, Helba's envoy.
Trismegistus
Everything is ready and the time has come, everyone will infiltrate the CyberConnect headquarters to carry out their plan and save their comatose loved ones.
Characters
- Mai Minase (Русский, Minase Mai?): She's a high school student who passed out when she first played The World. Since then it is followed by Junichiro Tokuoka, with whom he will join forces later to awaken the victims of the coma.
- Tomonari Kasumi (Sieg in the game) He hasn't woken up since.
- Junichiro Tokuoka (/25070/ , Tokuoka Jun'ichirō?): Unemployed from the CC, he was in charge of the Japanese conversion of The World, but one day he decided to leave the company and get to investigate the mysterious comas of some of the World players.
- Yuki Aihara (..., Aihara Yuki?Yukichin in the game): Sieg playmate, since she found out that her friend had stayed in a coma has joined Tokuoka to investigate.
- Kyoko Tohno (, Tōno Kyōko?, Kyo in the game): Another of Sieg's companions is an expert of the Epitaph of the Twilight, the story in which The World is based.
