Guyana national anthem
Dear Land of Guyana, of Rivers and Plains (in Spanish: Dear land of Guyana, of rivers and plains) is the anthem national of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. This composition was selected among several participants in 1966, its text being the work of Archibald Leonard Luker and the music being a composition of Robert Cyril Gladstone Potter.
English lyrics
Dear land of Guyana, of rivers and plains
Made rich by the sunshine, and lush by the rains,
Set gem-like and fair, between mountains and seas,
Your children salute you, dear land of the free.
Green land of Guyana, our heroes of yore,
Both bondsmen and free, laid their bones on your shore.
This soil so they hallowed, and from them are we,
All sons of one mother, Guyana the free.
Great land of Guyana, diverse though our strains,
We're born of their sacrifice, heirs of their pains,
And ours is the glory their eyes did not see,
One land of six peoples, united and free.
Dear land of Guyana, to you we will give,
Our homage, our service, each day that we live;
God guard you, great mother, and make us to be
More worthy our heritage, land of the free.
Spanish Translation
Dear land of Guyana, of rivers and plains.
Enriched by the sun and exuberant by the rains,
Beautifully and fairly located, between mountains and seas,
Your children greet you, dear land of the free.
Green land of Guyana, our heroes of yesteryear,
Both the slaves and the free, laid their bones on your shore.
Thus they sanctified this ground, and from them we come,
All children of one mother, Guyana, the free one.
Great land of Guyana, though diverse in our races,
We were born from your sacrifice, heirs of your pains,
And ours is the glory that their eyes did not see,
A land of six towns, united and free.
Dear land of Guyana, we will deliver to you,
Our tribute, our service, every day we live;
God protect you, great mother, and make it
Our legacy is more worthy, land of the free.
