Gustavo Alatriste Rodríguez (Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 25, 1922-Houston, Texas, July 22, 2006) was a Mexican actor, producer, writer, and film director.

Biography

A public accountant by profession and businessman, he began his career in Mexican cinema by producing Luis Buñuel's film, Viridiana (1961), starring his then wife, actress Silvia Pinal. This film is considered one of the best in Spanish cinema, as it won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes festival in 1961 and the UCC Grand Prix in 1962 and was the first of three films made by the Alatriste-Buñuel-Pinal trio.. The others are The Exterminating Angel (1962) and Simon of the Desert (1965).

In the 1980s he was vice president of the National Chamber of the Film Industry (CANACINE). He also founded the company Alatriste , which currently exists as Plaza Condesa in Mexico City.

Alatriste passed away in 2006, after battling pancreatic cancer for many years, in Houston, Texas.
