Gungan
The Gungans are a species from the Star Wars universe.
They are a species with large ears and a face and skin similar to that of amphibians. The Gungans inhabit huge underwater cities in lakes on the planet Naboo. Among the most outstanding we can find Jar Jar Binks, Captain Tarpals and Chief Nass.
Habitat
Native to Naboo, they often inhabit swampy areas and lakes. Although not all of its cities are underwater, they have always had a life closely linked to the liquid element, they do not tolerate hot climates. Trade with the Naboo provided them with enough technology to generate force fields, with which they built vast underwater cities, including their capital, Otoh Gunga, home of Jar Jar Binks.
Army
The Gungans are born warriors, and their cities often rise to prominence thanks to their disciplined armies. They demonstrated their potential in the battle against the Trade Federation, in which with their rudimentary weapons, they managed to stop the droids, armed with laser rifles and vehicles such as AATs and MTTs.
Infantry
In their armies they generally use energy lances, although they also use slingshots that launch electric spheres called Boomas, of a blue color. For the defense of their infantry, they use an elliptical shield, which protects by means of a force field.
Cavalry
For cavalry they used the kaadu, an amphibious horse-like animal that stands on its 2 hind legs. They used to make quick raids with them, and they also used them for hunting. The Gungan relationship with these animals was very important from the beginning of their civilization.
Artillery
They used two types of artillery or war machines:
- The catapult.
- Fambaas: beasts used by the gungan to transport their shield generators that protected them from droid artillery.
All Gungan war material is decorated with motifs reminiscent of the movement of water.
Religion
The religion of the Gungans is based on the worship of the aquatic deity Oma-Oma, who they believe lives in a sacred submerged city, in the company of other lesser entities. Due to the effect of time, the ancient statues of Oma-Oma have collapsed and only their heads can be seen, which are scattered throughout most of the planet and are a Gungan sanctuary. In episode I, the Gungans escaped from the Trade Federation troops to these places to take refuge.
