The gum resin is a protective plant secretion formed by a mixture of gum and resin that emulsifies when mixed with water. It may or may not also contain a volatile essential oil (scented or odorless gum resins).

Gum resin is white and thick, milky in nature that flows from various plants naturally or after cutting them. It solidifies after being in the air for a variable amount of time, depending on the plant. It is used as a natural adhesive.
