Guillermo Ramirez Ortega
Guillermo "Pando" Ramírez Ortega (born March 26, 1978 in Livingston, Izabal, Guatemala), is a former Guatemalan player who played as a midfielder. His career ended in September 2012. El Pando is the Guatemalan player with the most trophies won abroad.
Trajectory
El Pando Ramírez, After having been part of Municipal since 1995, Ramírez signed with PAS Giannina of Greece in 2001 and in 2003 with the Jaguares of the first division of Mexico.
In 2005 he went on loan to the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS scoring the decisive goal in the final against the New England Revolution that gave the team victory and its second title in history.
Following the 2005 MLS season, Ramírez returned to Municipal and has since helped the team win three league tournaments.
In July 2009, he was transferred to the Honduras Marathon. He returned to Municipal de Guatemala (2010). He scored his 130th goal on Sunday, August 29, 2010, beating Carlos & # 34;Pepino & # 34; Toledo. Guillermo Ramírez is one of the first 3 professional soccer players to have been banned for life from all soccer activity for match fixing.
Retirement from football
In September 2012, the Guatemalan Soccer Federation banned him for life for being involved in match-fixing.
International career
He made his debut on June 16, 1997 with the Guatemalan national team in a match against Costa Rica for the UNCAF Cup, his first international goal was on January 23, 1998. To date, he is the player with the most games played with the Guatemalan National Team, having played 100 official matches.
On August 6, 2008, El Pando wore the captain's armband when he scored the second goal for the Guatemalan National Team, in a 3-0 victory over the Bolivian National Team, to become the player with the most games played in the history of the Guatemalan national team, with 87 international matches, surpassing the previous record held by Juan Carlos Plata.
