Guillermo Alejandro Dañino Ribatto (Chinese: 吉叶墨; Trujillo, December 2, 1929) is a Peruvian religious belonging to the Congregation of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, writer, translator and recognized among the major foreign actors in Chinese cinema.

Biography

Guillermo was the youngest of the fourteen children of Francisco Solano José Dañino de la Torre-Ugarte and Rosa Ribatto Carranza.

He entered the Congregation of the Brothers of the Christian Schools - La Salle, and was sent to Arequipa to carry out his formation process as a religious educator. Graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, he studied linguistics at the School of Higher Studies in Social Sciences in Paris.

Resident of China since the mid-1970s. He has served as a professor of literature and linguistics at Peking University and Nanjing. A prolific writer and translator from Chinese to Spanish, he has also worked as a film actor in China.

His articles have been published by the prestigious poetry magazine Arquitrave, from Colombia; China Hoy, from Beijing and in special programs on Radio "Sol Armonía", from Lima.

Hiperión publishing house has published several of his translations of classical Chinese poetry in Spain. Its bilingual editions have the unusual feature of presenting the original Chinese "translated" to modern characters and with the reading in pinyin at the bottom.

He has been a professor at the National University of San Marcos, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and the Antonio Ruiz de Montoya University.

Pseudonyms

Due to the transliteration of his name into Mandarin, (Jiyemo), he is also known as Lao Ji.

As a film actor, he has participated in almost thirty films, short films, and documentaries related to the history and culture of China, as well as in Chinese television programs and series, among which are, "I give you a little tenderness", "A modern young lady" with actress Ban Hong, "Operation Pluto" with Li Baolin and NBA star Yao Ming.
