Guenhwyvar
Guenhwyvar is a fictional character from the world of Forgotten Realms, representative of a panther from the astral plane united to the onyx statuette that was created by an elven wizard in the forest of Cormanthor. The creation of that statuette was a gift for another swordsman elf (Leafsinger) but it is not known how he ended up in the Underdark, ending up in the hands of Drizzt Do' Urden.
The character of the panther was created by the writer R.A. Salvatore, who later named one of his cats after him. The name Guenhwyvar comes from the Welsh version of the name Guinevere, King Arthur's queen.
History
Guenhwyvar was created by the explorer mage Anders Beltgarden. The onyx figurine originally belonged to Josidiah Starym of Myth Drannor and later to the drow wizard Masoj of House Hun'ett, whom Drizzt Do'Urden killed during a battle. Drizzt then took the figure of the panther from his body because he could not allow Guenhwyvar to be used for evil, as by watching Guenhwyvar forced to hunt svirfneblins, Drizzt perceived the emotional damage she caused to a creature he admired and perceived. as noble.
In the times after leaving Menzoberranzan, Drizzt summoned Guenhwyvar as often as possible. This helped him combat the extreme loneliness that Drizzt faced.
At this time they became even more intimate than before, sharing a deep empathy with each other. Guenhwyvar has saved Drizzt's life on more than one occasion. Although some of Drizzt's companions (especially Wulfgar and Bruenor) were initially distrustful of the panther, he later became an important member of the group. During the Time of Troubles, Guenhwyvar was almost entirely destroyed because magic throughout Faerûn was in complete chaos. Due to Catti-brie's quick thinking, Guenhwyvar was saved, and once the Time of Troubles ended, things returned to normal.
Features
Guenhwyvar looks a lot like Drizzt. The panther accepts him as a master, but he loves him as a friend. Guenhwyvar and Drizzt's relationship is unique. The panther can be summoned from the Astral Plane up to 12 out of every 48 hours. Simply spending time on the Material Plane slowly uses up his energy. Guenhwyvar can be kept on the Material Plane past the limit or summoned earlier than usual, but it is extremely tiring for the panther. If the panther is seriously injured or even suffers wounds that would be fatal on the Material Plane, Guenhwyvar is transported back to the Astral Plane. It is enough for her to spend enough time there to fully regenerate and be able to be summoned again.
Guenhwyvar is "three meters long (3 m (9′ 10″)), at least, with muscular shoulders as high as a tall man's chest" and he weighs around 300 kg (660 lb).
