Guam flag
The Flag of the Territory of Guam was adopted on February 9, 1948. The territorial flag is dark blue with a narrow red border on all sides (the border was a later addition). In the center of the flag is the shield; an almond-shaped emblem, representing a canoe sailing in the Agana Bay near Agana, and GUAM in red letters. The shape of the emblem is reminiscent of the slingshot stones used by the island ancestors. The landform in the background represents the cliff Punta Dos Amantes in Guam. Charles Alan Pownall approved the shape of the flag in 1948.
Construction details
The length of the flag is forty inches and the width is seventy-eight inches. Around each side of the flag, there is a two-inch red border. The shield in the center is twenty-four inches high and sixteen inches wide.
