Gross

A gross is a quantity of articles equivalent to twelve dozen, or also the square of a dozen (12 × 12 = 12² = 144).

It is a measure that is used in hardware, haberdashery or jewelry; a thickness of buttons, etc.

In Olympic competition archery, a total of 144 arrows are shot in two days.
