Grindverk
Grindverk was an Icelandic group formed in November 1997 by Einar Örn Benediktsson (formerly of The Sugarcubes), Sigtryggur Baldursson (formerly of The Sugarcubes, Bogomil Font and Dip) and Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, a renowned musician (whose works go back to Current 93 and participations such as in Psychic TV, and more recently a collaboration with Einar Örn in Frostbite, among others).
The term “Grindverk” or “Grindewerke” was coined by the Icelandic poet Didda. According to its members, Grindverk reflects sudden changes in rhythms and melodies so that everyone can sing and dance. The term Grindewerke is used to describe a special method of dancing where the person shakes their hips against a wall.
In 1999, Grindverke released a single album titled Gesundheit Von K, a 12” vinyl, through Fat Cat Records. The album contains 4 tracks that mark the wide musical variety: from the post-industrial funk of the song that gives the album its name, to the song "Kastrato" with an exotic jazz.
After the release of his debut album, Einar Örn launched his solo career with a 2003 release: Ghostigital.
