Controversy with Javier Marías
His film The Last Voyage of Robert Rylands is based on the novel All Souls by Javier Marías. The writer had a bitter controversy in the newspaper El País with Elías and Gracia Querejeta, whom he accused of having disfigured his book until it was unrecognizable. He demanded that all mention of his name and his novel be suppressed in the credits of the same and began a long judicial process that, after two favorable sentences for the writer in 1998 and 2002, ended on March 7, 2006 when the Supreme Court it rejected the appeals presented by the producer of Elías Querejeta and ratified the previous sentences.
