Gōzō Shioda
Gozo Shioda (September 9, 1915 - July 17, 1994) was the founder of the Yoshinkan style of aikidō, this style is known as the most vigorous,[citation needed] being adapted even by the police and military authorities of Japan today. The founder of the martial art of Aikido, Master Morihei Ueshiba awarded him the 9th dan in 1961.
Shioda-sensei was a Judo student and competitor in his youth, and after challenging and being easily knocked down by Master Ueshiba-sensei after a demonstration, he became his student learning Daito ryu Aiki jujutsu, initially. He became known as one of the most powerful martial artists and teachers in the history of aikido, reaching an incredible level, even replicating several of the founder's martial feats.
