Gomecello
Gomecello is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It is integrated within the region of La Armuña. It belongs to the judicial district of Salamanca and to the La Armuña Commonwealth.
Geography
Its municipal area is made up of a single population center, occupying a total area of 20.70 km².
Communications
It has a railway station, which is located on the line that connects Medina del Campo with the Portuguese border in Fuentes de Oñoro, and it has a dock for loading and unloading merchandise. There are three services to Salamanca (two on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) and two to Valladolid, one of which extends to Palencia.
History
Founded by the kings of León in the Middle Ages in their process of repopulating the Salamanca area, they would have entrusted the task of organizing the settlement of the town to a certain Gómez Tello, the town being then framed in the fourth of Armuña of the jurisdiction of Salamanca, within the Kingdom of León, being documented in the XIII century as Gomeçello. Already in the Contemporary Age, with the creation of the current provinces in 1833, Gomecello was framed in the province of Salamanca, within the Leonese Region. Later, in 1877, the Gomecello railway station was inaugurated, beginning to provide service in that year, after the inauguration of the Salamanca-Medina del Campo railway line.
Demographics
According to the demographic data collected in the municipal register prepared by the INE in 2017, it has a population of 455 inhabitants.

Economy
The unemployment rate was 14.88% in 2001 and of the active population the primary sector employed 12.02%, industry and crafts 13.66%, construction 15.85% and services the remaining 58.47%.
The dominant crops are mainly cereals and legumes. The farms, 73 according to the 1999 agricultural census, occupied 1,869 hectares, 40.4% owned and 59.7% leased. 1,688 ha were cultivated (1,686 of herbaceous and 2 of fruit trees), 155 were dedicated to permanent pastures and 26 ha were other non-forest land. Of the total farms, 14 had less than 5 ha and 11 exceeded 50 ha. The livestock units recorded in the census in 1999 were 215: 157 cattle, 1 sheep, 53 pigs, 2 horses and 1 poultry.
On the other hand, in Gomecello the waste treatment center (CTR) has been operating since 2007 for the entire province of Salamanca.
Monuments and places of interest
Among its buildings, the most relevant is the church of Santiago Apóstol. Likewise, it is worth noting the existence of two grain silos in the town, which are visible from many kilometers away, making the town easily recognizable.
On the other hand, within the municipal area, next to the road that connects Gomecello and Cabezabellosa, are the remains of the old town of Sordos.

The festivities are usually held on the penultimate weekend of August (around the 20th) in honor of the Virgen de la Esperanza.
