Cabrerizos is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It is integrated within the region of La Armuña. It belongs to the judicial district of Salamanca and to the La Armuña Commonwealth.

Its municipal area is made up of the towns of Aldehuela de los Guzmanes, Arenal del Ángel, Cabrerizos, Casablanca, La Carcesa, La Flecha, La Granja, Las Dunas and Vivero Forestal, and has a population of 4276 inhabitants (INE 2022).

History

The foundation of Cabrerizos dates back to the repopulation carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, being integrated into the quarter of Villoria of the jurisdiction of Salamanca, within the Kingdom of León, having in the XIII the denomination Cabrarizos. been repopulated by King Ramiro II of León in the X century. With the creation of the current provinces in 1833, Cabrerizos It was framed in the province of Salamanca, within the Leonese Region.

Geography

Cabrerizos is located on the banks of the Tormes River, next to Salamanca.

It borders on the south with Santa Marta de Tormes, Pelabravo and Calvarrasa de Abajo, on the east with Aldealengua, on the north with Moriscos, Castellanos de Moriscos and Villares de la Reina and on the west with Salamanca.

It is located at a certain height because years ago when there were floods everything around the river was covered with water and caused damage. that is why, being at a height, the water did not reach the town at those moments of flooding.

Demographics

Between 1996 and 2006, Cabrerizos experienced an explosive increase of 128.8% in its population. This demographic growth makes it the fifth municipality in the province of Salamanca in terms of population growth in that period. Its proximity to the provincial capital, of whose suburb it is a part, allows it to collect part of the residential migration that is taking place from there.

Cultural centre

The municipality has a Cultural Centre in which they are:

  • Berta Pallares Municipal Library. Throughout the year, there are activities such as accountants or contests, in addition to the usual loan of books.
  • Different rooms for multiple uses such as restoration workshops, painting, pilates, yoga or dance, among others.

Leisure and sports

The municipality has different sports schools for the practice of sports such as athletics, table tennis or judo, as well as a youth center where all kinds of activities are organized throughout the year.

It also has an official basketball club that practice this sport in the sports facilities of the municipality, in the municipal hall Vicente Del Bosque located on the outskirts of the village. Both male and female teams play in regional and provincial leagues. Also, it has a variety of equipment from school to junior.
