Gladys del Pilar
Gladys del Pilar (b. Ecuador; 1967), is a Swedish singer best known for having been part of the musical group Afro-dite.
During her early years, she grew up in an Ecuadorian convent, until she was adopted by a Swedish couple, and moved to live in the town of Örebro, Sweden, when she was seven years old.
Her interest in music began as a child, taking classes at the Music School of her community, as well as later, once in high school, being part of Big Deal, the band best known in Örebro.
For four years he collaborated with this musical group. Shortly after, she would begin her time with the group Real Power , with which she got a record contract with the production company SWE MIX .
In 1991, he released the single "Trust" with this time, while working with Denniz Pop on a new single titled "Made up my mind", which became a bestseller.
Two years later, his first solo album would be released Movin' On, released by the Eagle Records record company. In 1998 he began working with Blossom Tainton and Kayo Shekoni in the band 'Afro-dite'.
With them, he managed to win the final of Melodifestivalen 2002 with the song "Never Let It Go" by Marcos Ubeda. That same year, on May 25, they would represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Estonia, where they would place eighth. The single achieved platinum status, and the album recorded after the festival reached the thirteenth best-selling position in Sweden.
The group tried their luck again at Melodifestivalen 2003 with the song "Aqua Playa" (also composed by Marcos Ubeda). This time, they finished eighth. A year later, now alone, Gladys would present the song "Baby I Can't Stop" (by Daniel Eklund & Mats Hedström) to the 2004 edition. Unfortunately, he would not be able to qualify in his semi-final.
