The Gipsy Kings (Reyes Gitanos in Spanish) are a French gypsy musical group, whose members are of Spanish descent and sing in Spanish mixed with southern French dialects. His music is a mix between flamenco, pop and Catalan rumba. Sales of his albums are estimated at more than 60 million copies worldwide.[citation needed]

History

Although the members of the group are French nationals, their grandparents were Spanish Gypsy emigrants who left Spain for France during the Spanish Civil War.

Her music has a particular style, with strong pop influences. Many songs by the Gipsy Kings fit into ballroom dance, such as salsa and rumba. His music has been described as a place where "flamenco, Romani rhapsody and salsa funk meet".

His first singles were "Djobi Djoba"and "Bamboleo", very popular in France despite criticism from flamenco purists. In 1982 they released their first album Allegria, and in 1983 they released their second album Luna de Fuego; but his album Gipsy Kings is the one that has had the greatest success, achieving fame and success in several countries in Europe and England, its success even reached as far away as Latin America; however, in Spain they did not have the same impact. In 1989, Gipsy Kings gained recognition in the United States, spending 40 weeks on the charts, something that very few albums in Spanish had achieved up to that time. Other albums are Estrellas, Mosaïque, Love & I freed and This world. His adaptation of the song "Hotel California" was part of the original soundtrack of the movie The Big Lebowski, as well as its adaptation of the Spanish version of "You've Got A Friend in Me" for the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Toy Story 3 (2010).

In 2021 they collaborate with C. Tangana on the song "Ingobernable" within the album El Madrileño.
