Gianluca Basile (January 24, 1975, Ruvo di Puglia, Italy) is a former Italian professional basketball player who belonged, among others, to the squads of Fortitudo Bologna, F. C. Barcelona and Olympia Milano. He is 1.92 meters tall, weighs 91 kilos, and played in the base and shooting guard positions.

History

Basile is characterized by having an excellent 3-point shot which leads him to score most of his points beyond the 6'25 line, commonly called 'tangerines', so He is nicknamed mandarineri. He is a regular member of the Italian basketball team, with which he won the silver medal at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. Since July 2005 he has played for F. C. Barcelona, a club with which he signed a contract for three seasons, until 2008 and with which he reached an agreement for two more seasons in July of that same year.

On June 21, 2011, FC Barcelona confirmed that it was not extending the player's contract. In an interview with the Tu Diràs program on the RAC1 radio station, he states that he is leaving sad but that he considers it a great pride to have belonged to this club, while at the same time he assures that he will look for a new team to play and compete in the Euroleague, although in a lowest level. Basile ends up being the foreign player who has worn the Regal Barcelona shirt the most times, with 327 occasions.

In July 2011 he signed for Bennet Cantú of the Italian league.

In August 2013 he signed for Orlandina Basket of Capo d'Orlando (Italy).

On February 13, 2017, he announced his retirement from active basketball at the age of 42.
