Ghanima Atreides is a character from the book Children of Dune written by Frank Herbert. This is the third book of the six that the original author of the series wrote.

Ghanima is the daughter of Paul Atreides, called Muad`Dib and therefore sister of Leto II who would become known as the God Emperor of Dune. The word "Ghanima" In Fremen slang it means 'war spoils', which is how Alia teased Harah (Jamis's widow) as a child for having been Paul's property in her youth. In the book 'Children of Dune', Ghanima is 9 years old and is described by Herbert as a red-haired girl very similar to Chani, but with Atreides features (wide-set eyes and wide mouth).

Like her brother, Ghanima possesses the gift of prescience, and possesses within her all the memories (female and male) of her family lineage. Even on some occasion, his mother tried unsuccessfully to take over his body, and then became her inner guardian, preventing the rest of the memories from trying to occupy Ghanima's body.

At the age of 9, along with his brother, he suffers a failed attempt on his life. This would be nothing more than a detonator of Leto's sudden rebellion against the reginacy of his aunt Alia. Ghani (who was injured) had to convince the Decider of the truth of Leto's death, and to do so she resorted to an ancient technique within her memories to hypnotize herself and erase the memory of his escape. This, in addition to erasing the memory, allowed Ghanima to solve the problem of the Abomination, since her memories were secluded by this same hypnotic trance, allowing her, for a time, to develop her own personality, with her own mother standing guard within her. your mind.

Once at court, Alia arranged her marriage to Farad'n Corrino (who was blamed for the attack), hoping that Ghani (convinced of her brother's death) would assassinate him, leaving her path to power clear. However, this plan failed when Leto appeared on the wedding day, where he assumed power of the empire, freeing Ghanima from the trance by pronouncing the words 'Secher Nbiw', which mean 'Golden Path'. #3. 4; in the ancient language that only the twins knew, because it was very old, and that they used to communicate secretly.

After that, it is known that Ghanima married Leto, as a political strategy to accentuate her brother's power. Ironically, Farad`n Corrino was her consort and progenitor of future Atreides generations.

There is no great information about his death, except that he died at the beginning of his brother's metamorphosis. From the diaries stolen by Siona Atreides, a poem written by Leto titled "Words I wrote upon learning of Ghanima's death was extracted.

"The sand on the beach is gray like a dead cheek, A green tide reflects ripples in the clouds, I stand on the dark wet edge, The cold foam cleans my feet, I smell smoke from drifting logs"

Thanks to them, Siona would discover the tyrant's weakness.
