George Mallett

William George Mallet (Panama, July 24, 1923 – Castries, Saint Lucia, October 20, 2010) was a prominent politician on the island of Saint Lucia, a small nation located in The Caribbean Sea.

Biography

Mallet served as the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism in the island's first government after gaining independence in February 1979. He was later appointed Governor General by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, a position he held from 1 from June 1996 to September 17, 1997. In 1997 Queen Elizabeth II awarded him the title of Sir and the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George. The same queen had distinguished him with the title of Knight of the Order of the British Empire in 1989.

Sir George Mallet's wife, Lady Beryl Mallet, died on 27 August 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Juliet.
