Gary oak
Gary Oak (シゲル, Shigeru Ōkido? , in Japan) from Pallet Town, is a Pokémon trainer (later researcher) grandson of Professor Oak and lifelong rival of Ash Ketchum, the protagonist of the series. He is also called & # 34;Blue & # 34; ("Green" in Japan) in the Pokémon video games, in which he ends up being chosen as the new Gym Leader of Green City after Team Rocket leaves him.
Character Information
Gary has been his rival for 10 years, a proud and fairly self-confident character, and always has a group of admirers behind him. He usually humiliates Ash and says that he is better than him, but in the Indigo league he fell way before Ash (who made the top 16). In the Indigo League, Gary and Ash did not face each other but in the Johto League Silver Conference they did. He lost to Ash in the victory round, and made the top 16 in Johto. However, when Ash decides to travel to Hoenn after the Johto League, Gary decides to stop being a fighter and instead dedicates himself to studying Pokémon for the good of science, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Professor Oak., that is, he wants to become a Pokémon researcher.
This character did not appear again in the series, until the end of the ninth season, Battle of the Frontier. He appeared with a new Pokémon before Ash, an Electivire, an evolution of his Electabuzz. The thing is, Gary's appearance changed to Gary from the games (Blue), specifically to what he looks like in Red Fire and Green Leaf. He then meets up with Ash in Sinnoh, where they both have to protect a Shieldon from Pokémon Hunter J.
In the Master Journeys season, Gary reunites with Ash and his grandfather, Professor Oak, and meets Goh, Ash's new partner. With Ash and Goh, they head to a mountain where Ash's Infernape was fighting the Legendary Pokémon Moltres. After Gary had a battle with Moltres, he finally got the feather. He is under the missions of the research project called Project Mew.

In-game
Gary (called Green or Blue) is the rival of the main character in the Red and Blue editions (as well as their FireRed and LeafGreen remakes) and in the Yellow version of the corresponding Pokémon games to the first generation. In the Red and Blue versions it always chooses the starter Pokémon whose type has advantage, while in the Yellow version it chooses the Eevee intended, according to the story, for the player (although it is later awarded to Pikachu). This Eevee It will evolve into Flareon, Jolteon or Vaporeon depending on how the team and its Pokémon are managed, as well as the results of the first battles against it. It is found several times in the game for combat, so its team will vary a lot in terms of its members and levels, he is the final boss of these versions as champion of the Pokémon League after defeating the Elite Four.
It reappears in the Gold, Silver, and Crystal versions, and in their Gold HG and Silver SS remakes of the second generation Pokémon games. He first meets him on Cinnamon Island and comments on the disaster that occurred when the volcano on Cinnamon Island erupted and also mentions that he will be waiting at his Gym in Ciudad Verde before he leaves. As he said, he is the new leader of the Ciudad Verde Gym and his team is varied, although he maintains the base of the previous games.
