The garter belt or garter belt is an undergarment that is used to hold female stockings and is only worn with a dress or skirt. A special type of garter belt was used to hold men's socks. It is attached to the waist where two elastic bands usually start in front and another two in the back to hold the stockings by the garter part; the number of elastics varies (6, 8 or more). The garter belt can be incorporated into another garment, for example a corset.

Throughout the XX century, the garter belt was consolidated as a symbol of eroticism.
