Galavision

Galavisión is an American subscription television channel with offices in Miami, Florida, and is owned by TelevisaUnivision. It was launched in 1979 to provide Spanish-language programming for American audiences.

Galavisión mainly broadcasts old Televisa comedy series, as well as several live Mexican soccer matches. In addition, it broadcasts both live and delayed Televisa newscasts. Previously, between 1988 and 2001, it also had the ECO news programs on the grid in the mornings and evenings.

As of February 2015, 68,355,000 American households (58.7% of homes with television) received Galavisión.

History

Televisión se inició el 1 de abril de 1979, como una red de cable premium, transmitiendo una mezcla de películas clásicas y recientes de cine mexicano y otros en español.

In 1984, the network became a basic cable general entertainment channel offering a combination of Televisa programming and SIN repeats or reruns.

In the mid-1990s, Galavisión was directed by Javier Saralegui and aired a mix of programs in Spanish and English languages such as Kiki desde Hollywood or It's fun funny. They also incorporate variety productions in Miami shows such as In the dark, but on, hosted by Paul Bouche.

This strategy was complemented by Televisa, which produced programs that were first broadcast on Univision, with entertainment programs and some news from the Televisa network, ECO news, including the entertainment program Entertainment Tonight, hosted by Pita Ojeda and Ilia Calderón..

Since 1997, Galavisión has aired a mix of classic comedy, soap operas and late-night shows from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s that originally aired on the Univision network, with more current news, sports and specials offerings from the three Televisa networks, Las Estrellas, Foro TV and Nu9ve, as well as two shows produced by Telehit.

Since 2012 in its most recent strategy, Galavisión's programming has broadcast original productions with shows such as Acceso Máximo, At Home with Lucy, Delicioso (presented by Ingrid Hoffmann), The Total Life, Decorating With You, Un Destino, The Best of Boxing in This Corner, the best of the sister network of the Univision/Telefutura series Solo Boxeo. Televisa's programming is also produced and designed to adapt to strict broadcast standards.

HD signal

Galavisión launched its own high definition signal on June 1, 2010 in 1080i. DirecTV added the signal to its channel offering on August 15, 2013.
