Gabriel Cairo (1969) also known as Gaby (San Martín (Mendoza), March 7, 1969) is an Argentine former roller hockey player who was two times world champion in 1995 (Recife) and in 1999 (Reus), world runner-up in 2001 (San Juan) and winner of the gold medal at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, where roller hockey was included as an exhibition sport. As a player for FC Barcelona, he won eight Spanish leagues, five European Cups, four European Super Cups, four King's Cups and one Intercontinental Cup. He is the brother of Alejandro Cairo and Pablo Cairo, who were also part of the team that won the Olympic gold medal. He has been considered one of the best roller hockey players in the world and is currently a broadcaster of C.F.Can Vidalet matches after being dismissed in March 2013 as Barcelona coach.

Gold medal in roller hockey (exhibition)

Gold medal with cup.svg Gabriel Cairo won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992, where skate hockey was included as one of the exhibition sports, presenting the best teams in the world, such as Portugal, the world champion, and other favorites such as Spain, Argentina and Italy.

Argentina started the competition badly losing against the United States in a very violent match. In the semifinal round, Argentina successively defeated Brazil (3-1), Italy (7-3) and the Netherlands, qualifying to play the final against Spain. The decisive match was played on August 7 at the Palau Blaugrana.

Argentina came out with Hermann, P. Cairo, Páez, Allende and Roldán; then Monserrat and G. Cairo would enter. The match began with Spain dominating widely and an outstanding performance by the Argentine goalkeeper, preventing the Iberians from taking the lead, until they finally did so in the 15th minute, with a goal from Birdalone. Argentina reacted and in one minute scored two goals through Páez, ending the first half 2-1.

In the second half, the Argentines took control of the game, increasing the difference with goals from Páez and Roldán (4-2). Spain discounted through Carlés, but Argentina again scored three goals behind thanks to a goal from P. Cairo, giving the feeling that they were ensuring victory. But the Argentines lost concentration and the Spanish turned the game around, scoring three goals and taking the final into extra time.

After the match resumed, the Argentines and Spaniards did not give up. Páez, one of the figures of the Argentine team, broke the tie (6-5), but Rovira immediately made it 6-6. At that time Diego Allende managed to unbalance with two individual plays that gave Argentina the two goal advantage (8-6) that allowed them to obtain the gold medal.

The Argentine team was made up of: Diego Allende (25), Alfredo Bridge (21), Alejandro Cairo (21), Gabriel Cairo (23), Pablo Cairo (28), Guillermo Herrmann (25), Raúl Monserrat (20), José Luis Páez (23) and Roberto Roldán (23). The technical director was Miguel Miguez.
