Fushigi Yugi
Fushigi Yūgi (ふしぎ遊戯, '&# 39;Fushigi Yūgi''? The Mysterious Game) is a manga and later anime series, written and drawn by Yū Watase and published in Shōjo Comic magazine by Shogakukan.
The manga appeared on sale in Japan in 1992 and ended in 1996. When Yuu finished the story (with 13 volumes) it was announced that they would produce an anime based on it, so they asked him to continue the manga; thus covering 18 volumes. The anime covered the first thirteen volumes and later three series of OVA`S were made. The first two series are based on the remaining volumes, 14-18, but with obvious and all too clear differences. From beginning to end. The third OVA is the longest and tells what happened according to the novel Fushigi Yūgi Eikōden. Three humorous OMAKE`S were also made and the second one is connected to the part of the manga where they dress up as women. A highly recommended anime-manga, being considered one of the best shojo.
The Fushigi Yūgi universe continues with Fushigi Yūgi: Genbu Kaiden, the one-shot Fushigi Yūgi: Byakko Ibun and Fushigi Yugi: Byakko Senki.
Plot
The protagonist is Miaka Yūki, an irresponsible, gluttonous and sentimental teenager who aspires (although everyone thinks it will be very difficult for her) to enter the prestigious Jokan Institute. When her best friend, Yui Hongo, a girl who is Miaka's counterpart (since she's good at studies, she doesn't think about food and doesn't behave so childishly) needs to go to the library, Miaka accompanies her
When Miaka drops a coin under the soda machine, she sees a red bird come into a room. Upon entering the forbidden room where she saw the bird enter, her friend Yui appears and a book written in Chinese falls from the shelf, which is called The Universe of the Four Gods, and is written in the language that Yui can read. When reading it aloud, suddenly they both appear in a strange place, there some slave traders appear, but in that situation Tamahome appears, a boy who only saves them because he believed they would pay him. He has the ogre/demon sign on his forehead. After this Yui disappears and appears in the library. As Miaka begins her adventure, Yui reads what happens to her friend through the book, and everything that happens to Miaka inside the book happens to Yui. For example, when Miaka jumps into the pond, Yui appears wet, when Miaka is injured, Yui feels the same pain and the sign of her injury, etc.
Miaka tries to become attached to Tamahome, who eventually agrees to protect her and falls in love with the young woman. When they are locked in the cell they both escape but on the way Miaka disappears from Tamahome's side because she smells like food. Hungry, Miaka heads into the kitchen. After leaving the kitchen she realizes that she is alone and in that she meets Hotohori. And that is how she realizes that she is in the world of the book, in the country of Konan, and that Hotohori is the emperor of that country.
Later, Miaka decides to return to her world, but when she returns, Yui is not there. She returns to the world of the book but unexpectedly appears in Konan's neighboring country of Kutou. Yui, after suffering an unpleasant experience in which she was about to be raped, believes that Miaka betrayed her and therefore decides to take revenge, for which, against all odds, she becomes the priestess of the Seiryū God and by extension, receives to her own guardians, including one named Nakago who has taken advantage of Yui's emotional breakdown to turn her against Miaka and thus manipulate her and feed that hatred. Blinded by fury at the supposed betrayal of her friend, Yui wants to summon the God Seiryū before Miaka could summon Suzaku in her case to return to her world and be with Tamahome.
This is how Miaka's adventures begin in the world inside the book, where she must grow up and by force of will, overcome all the tests that are put in her way to be together with Tamahome and recover her friend Yui from the hands Nakago's manipulators during the first part of the series.
Manga
Fushigi Yuugi began serialization in 1992 in Shōjo Comic magazine from Shōgakukan publishing house and ended in 1998 with a total of 18 volumes. The publisher in charge of its edition in Spain is Glénat, with color dust jackets, about 200 pages. There are several differences between the anime and the manga of Fushigi Yūgi. The main ones are:
- The beginning and end of the series (the end of the volume 13) are different.
- Miaka gives Keisuke a hair ribbon to communicate with him in the book, which Miaka later orders Tasuki to burn it. Instead, in the anime, it's Miaka's hair that makes them talk to each other.
- Taiitsukun gives a crystal ball to Miaka to be able to look for the Suzaku Stars (this is in the OVA Eikōden). In the anime it gives a mirror.
- Miaka loses sight when she falls ill because of the demon Shikkonki.
- When they march to Hōkkan, Soi throws them a ray and the shipwreck and arrives to an island near Hōkkan called Nyosei (or Nucheng if you read Glénat's sleeve), where only women live and if they find a man, they kill him and take his eyes out to make liquor.
- In the second part of the sleeve, what in the anime are the OVAs happen also many more things than in the anime do not happen. As for example, a cousin of Tetsuya, named Kuwahara, appears. And a lot more.
- At the beginning of the Miaka and Yui sleeve enter the book, but then both go out and go to their homes. Miaka is studying her because she wants to make her mother happy, who wants me to go into Jonan High School and doesn't think she can. When he went to the Miaka academy, he saw his mother with a man, but when he came to his house and told him, he hits a slap because he read his diary and thinks he's dating a boy. Miaka flees and arrives at the library, because he actually wants to escape all that, where he enters the book again. In the anime Miaka and Yui enter the book and Yui returns, but Miaka does not: Yui stays reading the book and following Miaka's vials until, when Miaka is sent back, Yui replaces it. Also the things that happen to Yui like wet the uniform or hurt the leg (as Miaka happens) occur in the anime when Yui reads the book, on the sleeve he does not know that Miaka is in it.
- On the sleeve you don't see what Keisuke and Tetsuya do while reading the book and looking for information. In the anime you see them gathering data, going to the place where the translator lived, finding out what happened to the two previous priests, etc.

Fushigi Yûgi Eikôden
It is the last OVA of Fushigi Yūgi and the one that gives the most anticipated ending by all. It is based on one of Megumi's novels, with the help of Yuu Watase, who does the illustrations for the novels. Eikoden will narrate the story from when Miaka and Taka (tamahome) get married, both are very happy and even more so when Miaka gets pregnant. But May Sasake, a Yotsubadai student and three years younger than Miaka and Yui, jealous of Miaka's destiny, finds the Universe of the Four Gods and enters it. Upon entering the book, Miaka automatically goes into a coma and the baby passes Mayo's body. But Konan is not going through the best moment, since the desert advances at times (because the book is worn outside) and Suzaku must be invoked again. Taka, for his part, to save Miaka, enters the Universe of the Four Gods, but when he arrives there, Mayo, caught up in her own fantasy, had told everyone, including the emperor (Bōshin), that Tamahome (Taka) and she they were married and happily expecting a child. By order of Boshin, Taka goes out to find the seven stars of Suzaku, four of them already reincarnated in new bodies. But May blinded by her jealousy and envy for / with miaka projects an evil suzaku. Likewise Taka, Tasuki and Chichiri together with the reincarnations of the remaining 4 stars face a different god in each episode. -In the first episode of the OVA, Tasuki burns the fake Genbu. -In the second episode of the OVA, Chichiri fights against the fake Byakko, who was attacking the reincarnation of Chiriko. -In the third episode of the OVA, Taka confronts the false Seryū, when he is willing to attack the reincarnation of Nuriko. Already in the last episode of the OVA, when they have found the 7 stars of suzaku, a repentant May realizes what she had done wrong and tries to commit suicide by drowning in the Konan lake, but Taka appears in time and saves her from she. It is then that May begins to disappear little by little, and that is when the false Suzaku makes an appearance and the seven stars with the help of May and Miaka manage to summon the real Suzaku and ask him for two wishes: 1- Seal the evil of the false suzaku for all eternity. 2- Save Konan from the fateful disaster. At the end of the OVA, Taka can be seen in the hospital, when Yui, Tetsuya, Keisuke and Mayo arrive, and instantly a baby is heard crying. And with a background of stars, Miaka says: The baby will be called Hikari, because it means light, a light that will shine forever To which Taka replies: Hikari Sukunami (To all this add that Taka has Tamahome's memories and, therefore, Tamahome and he are the same person, that is, he is Tamahome)
Fushigi Yūgi: Genbu Kaiden
Genbu Kaiden tells the story of Takiko Okuda, the priestess of Genbu, and her search for the celestial stars. This story is the (chronological) prequel to Fushigi Yūgi, since it tells the story of the first priestess, Takiko, who is mentioned when Keisuke starts looking for information about the book that has trapped her sister. In Genbu Kaiden no mention is made of any character in Miaka and Yui's story, as it takes place in the year 1923 -- almost 70 years before the two had their adventures.
It all begins in the city of Morioka, where Takiko lives with her mother Yoshie who is seriously ill with tuberculosis. Yoshie dies of her illness and her father Einosuke, who is the translator of the mysterious book that absorbs the priestesses into Japanese, returns home after a year. Takiko is so angry with her father for not being with them that he takes the book from her, intending to destroy it, believing that the text is the cause of her unhappiness. but she ends up being abducted inside... There she meets a girl who saves her using the power of the wind and she discovers that this girl is actually Uruki, a man with special powers from the constellation of Genbu, this is how her life begins. adventure and look for the other members of the constellation to summon Genbu.
It is noteworthy that, unlike in the case of Miaka and Yui, in Genbu Kaiden the priestess and the stars are seen as a sign of bad omen and nobody wants to associate with them, therefore they have more problems when it comes to reaching people... Starting with the fact that the emperor himself wants to kill them. This Emperor has very special reasons for wanting the death of the Stars, one of them being a personal reason: one of the warriors is his son, who according to a prophecy is destined to kill him. And this son is none other than Uruki, the first companion recruited by Takiko, who has lived her entire life running from her father and his supporters.
Fushigi Yūgi: Byakko Ibun
It is a one-shot story (of one chapter) released in 2015 and published in Flowers magazine. Its protagonists are a girl named Neiran and a wizard named Nirusha, who meet in a village in the country of Sairou (which was briefly part of the original story).
Fushigi Yūgi: Byakko Senki
The newest and latest part of the Fushigi Yūgi saga begins in 2017, also in Flowers magazine. It is dedicated to Suzuno Osugi, who will become the second priestess in the story: the Byakko Priestess.
The story begins in 1923, a few months after Takiko's adventures, when her little friend Suzuno is 8 years old... but actually the action takes place in 1933, when Suzuno is 18. She was sent to the world of book to save himself from the Great Kantō Earthquake of 1923, in which his parents Tamayo and Takao Osugi (Takiko's father's assistant and student) died, and he was in Sairou for a few days. Upon returning, she was adopted by a doctor friend of her parents (Oikawa, who also knew Takiko) and spent 10 years away from the "book", but when she is about to graduate from school and marry her childhood friend Seiji Horie, the text reappears and sends her back to Sairou. The country is in a major crisis: a religious sect known as "The Alliance of the Three Priests" threatens the stability of the government, and people like Neiran, the young Emperor Nahido and the Stars of Byakko are in the middle of this huge problem. Therefore, Suzuno's return will be a decisive factor in deciding which part of the conflict she will win and entrench her power in the country.
